how long before you went to the dr.'s did you take the darvocet? it take 72 hrs to get out of your system. i would call them and talk to your DR. not the nurse. tell him/her that you took some of and old script, maybe show him the bottle with your name on it. be honest. my huband is an offshore fisherman who has cp and sometimes if the boat got stuck out to sea because of weather or they were catching to much fish and didn't want to come in(Captains decision) he would acually take a percocet from one of the other guys(he takes hydrocodone). he got urine tested everytime he went to the dr. and he would just tell the truth.it only happened 2-3 times a year. he never got in big trouble just the "you know you shouldn't do that"but never like losing his dr or meds. since it was acually your script i would think the dr. would be understanding as long as you tell them what happened. but that's just my opinion.

I think if you have the Darvocet because it was prescribed to you at one time that you whould be able to take in the bottle showing that it was your own perscription and tell him you were saving it for a rainey day so to speak. You should be alright. Just make sure you tell him up front if he's going to test you before it's out of your system.

My pain dr does urine tests and I am pretty sure that they are not that complicated...have you taken any opiates recently? or just the darvocet? i think that if you have taken some of your prescribed meds (opiates) that the test will come back positive for opiates; i doubt that the propoxyphene will show up on its own...that would require a more sophisticated (and expensive) test. darvocet is an opiate, but it wont show up on an opiate test...which is what my pain doctor gives us. not sure if that helps or not...

My doc doesn't drug test. I personally have some choice words for doctors whom I consider either fascists or cowards (any doc who would drug test an otherwise honest patient.)

From what I know about drug testing testing for SPECIFIC drugs is VERY expensive (who pays for these test? YOU? I would raise the roof if my doctor tried to drug test me and then BILL me for this most fascist of privacy annihilating thing.) Most drug tests test for drug "families" meaning Opiates, benzos, barbiturates etc. I have NO idea how specific these tests your doctor uses is, but I doubt it is drug specific, those are really expensive.

Also, since when it is wrong to use an old drug? I used to have a back log of old meds, mostly because I got better ones, or didn't use all the old scripts. I have had old codienes, old darvocets, old vicodin, old fiorinal. Never worried I was doing anythign WRONG by taking them, as they were prescribed by my dcotor. I remember once I had a terrible breakthrough, and the next visit simply told him conversationally, "It was so bad I used one of those old codeines you gave me a few years ago, because I needed something different to get the pain in line." All he said was, "Did it help?"

I wouldn't worry to much about it. You have a right to KNOW not only which test they use, but WHAT they are testing for (families, amounts, specific drugs) It really pisses me off when these cowardly doctors do things to make people in pain and afraid even MORE afraid. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I wouldnt' worry too much about it. If you think it will matter (I doubt it will) simply TALK to him. Does he allow talking, or is he the type that does all the talking at the visit (red flag there.)

It should be OK. IF your doctor is an honest and humane man.

Also you TRIED to call him and he didn't return your call. IMO, you need a doctor who CARES. Doctors who don't return phone calls in a matter of hours need to be replaced.

You probably got IV fluids in the hospital. Drink water ASAP, flush the system, don't give morning urine, pee before going in. Don't volunteer info, behave as though it slipped your mind, but keep the bottle just in case. Convince yourself that you haven't got any reason to stew about it.

All the replies I have read are right on. One more piece of info for you... they cannot cut you off of your medications,"cold-turkey". It is or should be in your contract that they will slowly wean you off of them and request you find another doctor to help you with your pain management. Most docs are under as much stress and fear as we are. They are not bad guys, they just don't want to lose their licenseing and ability to make a living and provide for their families as well as help us who need them and their specialties.
I agree with the replies that state to not offer any info not needed, and keep the bottle but it most likely won't show up. Most of the time they are looking for someone who is not taking the medicine and so it won't show up on the tests. Not looking for someone like you. or looking for the person taking street drugs of a completely different type of drug .
Don't worrie so much.. be carefull with your stress level it's not good for you.

First off I don't think any of us on here think you did naything any of us wouldn't not have done put in the same position. As for your doctor. Well if you go there nad he does ask for urine you can just say by the way , I forgot to tall you that when I was out of meds and I was in pain I found some old pain meds and took them until I was able to get new ones.
I don't know if that would affect his descion to give you any other meds, I would hope not seeing as you have neve had a problem with wanting meds before the time prescribed. I understand that doctors are put in a hard place too. I think the only thing in case it happens is honesty. I hope noone on here looks at you with a ounce of judgement because if they do then they have never been in your predicament. I have and I did the exact thing you did. All we wnted was for the apin to stop!!! I wish you much luck and hope everything works out for you.

The test will confirm any opiates in your system. They are not specific for what type of opiate. I don't know for sure but I think darvacet is a opiate. Check it out & if you have any left take it before the test. Give it @ least 3-4hrs to work. i just signed a contact & it states they have to wean you. They can't just stop you.Keep up posted. Thanks guys so mch for your replies. I have been so worried about this test. I found the copy of the form they sent in with the urine test. It says right on top that I was hospitalized a few days before and on the bottom is a chart with all the medications or opiates that I take and how often plus they have a check mark in the box for additional tests for the fentanyl. Which is no problem I actually change that after 4 days. I do remember that I definatly recieved fluids and zofran in the hospital and I know they gave me pain meds too because of the infection and I was just so tired anyways. I told my dr most of what they gave me if anything pops up I will just take him the bottle. The other thing about being attacked on here or people being mad at me. It was because a few months ago when i was very active on here and the site alot of people were ganging up on others and it was like being in junior high again cliques and such felt silly. Im happy that it isnt that way any more. My dr s a pretty good guy. I just worry because after I told him about my sister wanting to put all my meds narcs or otherwise in the toilet up went the sign in the office that absolutely no prescription lost or stolen would be replaced. Then i guessed someone asked about marijuana up went that sign for anyone seeking it to find another dr. Now the urine tests. Im not actually offended that he is doing that. Yes the fees of the tests got to my insurance if i get a bill ya im going to be pissed. I jus tworry about what he will think if anything pops up because he knows about everything going on here at home. My marriage really hubby and I have had problems since all of this and my dr knows, he was telling me yesterday that the infections, pain and hubby are not my fault we talked about a lot of that for a while. He is really against me going to Phoenix on the 26th and 27th to have a specia lx-ray done and an exploratory lap he bet me $100 that they wouldnt find anything. shook on it and everything. I know its wrong to think i want them to find something but these past two years living with chronic pain and painfull tests after tests and surgeries that I really want an answer other than its nerve damage. Dr. Hibner at the arizona center for chronic pelvic pain told me that I have severe muscle spasms and possibly a number of other problems that they couldnt really pinpoint without surgery or this xray. They did do a test while I was there and it showed that I had some problems with my bladder and other pelvic stuff showed up Im worried about a lot of things with this IS it wrong to hope they find it? I pray that they do. Hubby and I well for an update for anyone who remembers me. Hubby and I almost got divorced last month I left for a hotel for 3 days with my dog but we talked things out and we are in marriage counseling together. Isnt going to well honestly. We are roomates more or less we sleep in seperate rooms and he just wakes up showers and leaves I do not see him all day. We never do anything together and he says that he loves me but he cannot handle the fact that I used to work two jobs and go to school full time. Now I do not work and I mostly stay at home. I gained a lot of weight from the nerve blocks so Im also not attractive to him. Im trying though Im cleaning more i just hate to go out and see people i havent for a while and listen to them ask how far along i am. that hurts. and with my dog having a heart problem right now its just been rough.

laura20: just an fyi--darvocet is a narcotic analgesic, but is not an opiateit is technically called propoxyphene (structure is similar to methadone) and it would not show up on an opiate test. meganK-i think you will be fine, i am sure he won't test you for that, and if it does show up for some reason, just show tell him nonchalantly what happened and show him the bottle. no big deal. and i bet that the sign went up in your drs office b/c they had problems w/ someone actually doing thatit was probably just a coincidence that you said that about your sister.
randomly, one day my doc brought me a pain contract (it has a similar clause in it) and i was so horrified: like why am i getting this now? what did I say or do?? he said it "wasn't for me" but they were having problems w/ OTHER patients. my contract also included the fact that we could get tested. my doc says he tests "problem" patients every time they come in. i've never actually been tested myself, but he keeps saying he means to get one for me just for his records, his safety. i wouldn't mind. he trusts me and i trust him--so in a perfect world, i would never have to piss in a cup; but of course the way the govt is he's scared of losing his license. its so sad.
ok, so now about your husband/x-ray. i know how it is wanting to "see" something on your results--it seems to validate what YOU have always known. after 4 yrs of my pain they finally found an enlarged blood vessel pressing against my trigeminal nerve; and i was HAPPY--that someone else could SEE my pain; i always knew it was there. but there are A LOT of pain patients never see actual, physical "evidence" of painso no, i dont think it wrong or strange at all to want something to show up. that being said, i hope you are prepared if nothing doesthat doesn't mean you ARE NOT IN PAIN and your husband should realize that. i can't believe he is actually putting money on nothing being there! wtf?!?! i'm sorry, i think he should love you REGARDESS if you put on weight or if you cleaned the house. that is not right! i hope that counseling is helping b/c i can't imagine having to deal w/ that bullshit whilst being in pain. i mean, i try not to TALK about my pain all the time w/ my partner, but he obviously knows its there; and knows that if i'm laying on the couch all day long that it is bad. he cleans and takes care of what needs to be taken care of all the time; but even more so on those days. i have recently gained over 30 lbs b/c of my medication and he tells me all the time i look better and he'd love me even if i were a beluga whale. now Im not trying to make you feel bad or mad at your hubby; just trying to point out that you do not need to take that. it is definitely hard when one person in a relationship is in CPobviously we havent always been picture perfect but he NEVER would have put MONEY on nothing showing up on one of my tests. anyway, Ill stop rambling. hugs, I hope the test goes well and that things w/ your hubby start to get better w/ the therapy.

Actually propoxyphene is an opiate but I don't think taking one a few days before will show up. If it does I agree with everyone to just take in the bottle. It definately sounds as if your doc is doing a CYA with all the new signs and stuff. Pain docs really are under a lot of pressure and have to dot all the i's. I do not thin wanting to find an answer is unusual at all. I hope the new test you are going to be having shows some results so you can get some answers.

thanks guys hugs too. I will let you all know how the surgery and the test goes. My prayers are is that it is my veins ya they shouldnt be all screwy and if they were they would have had to be that way before the staph infection 2 years ago. But Im praying it is because dr. hibner told me that I could wake up from the surgery and no more pain. I would be doing cartwheels if that hapened. i could get off the pain meds everything. I ould be so happy. My pain dr here though just thinks that it is my nerves and the pain is never going away and there isnt anything else wrong and this surgery willl make things worse. but thanks for listening guys this has been so stressful on me so my pain has been worse. but lots of hugs and thanks again

Don't say anything about the darvocet. If you get caught explain the situation, that you had extra pain and took old meds. Have the bottle handy if possible or a pharmacy printout. This is no big deal. I'm so sorry to hear about your health challenges and your dog. I raise Neapolitan Mastiffs and have had 3 die on me over the many years I've been raising them. It is always so sad.

Darvocet IS an opiate. It is related to methadone, but methadone is also an opiate (OK some profs call them "opioid" because they are synthetic opiates, but they show up on tests which test for opiates.

I understand your "wanting" the test to find something. You want not only an explanation for your pain, but justification for your suffering as well. That makes sense. A lot of people say "At least I know what it is. NOW I feel a little better." It makes perfect sense.

Something like endometriosis will NOT show up on ANY imaging. The endo is nearly identical tissue to normal tissue and the only way they may find it is with an endoscopic or Lap procedure.

I hope you can find out what is wrong, so you can get the proper treatment. Please don't worry about those few Darvocets at all. I don't think it would be a problem.
