So after a nap after I got home yesterday, I wrote this wonderfully detailed accounting of what happened... and then the power went out for an hour. At that point my laptop decided to ignore all the times I have told it I do NOT want to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, So even when the power did come back on, I still could not post. In short....
The ride was wonderful! I was worried that I would be riding with slow pokes who never get above a walk, but I was wrong!!! Though we never let the horses out to more than a trot, it was a beautiful ride in a beautiful place. My daughter's horse was sure footed (where as mine would have had trouble in the slick mud conditions) and she WANTED to be out and riding.
the bottom line is that I should have thrown in the towel on the costume contest when the mare first got nervous about the costume. I could not safely get more than half our costume ON and she was nervous enough that she did not want to leave her buddy at all!. My friend wound up bringing her horse to the contest area, but that was still not enough and I the mare and I took wild leaps this way and that.. especially when the horse dressed as a boat stood right behind her...
So we came in a measly third out of five contestants.
I did learn that I can still sit a freaking out horse (she was not trying to get me off just totally overstimulated, especially with the horse boat) and there were no accidents. Needless to say, I will not be doing any more costume contests on her until I have had time to work through some issues - like OMG my buddy is more than 20 feet away from me.
BUT I really don't have the muscles anymore for sitting a freaking out horse... so I am one giant still muscle!!!
I figured out how to upload a few pics of when she was actually standing calmly. Like I said, we were only wearing half our costume...

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

Today is a high pain day... for all the silly reasons... I am stiff!!! Many many muscles that don't get used enough got used too much yesterday!
There is also a lot of arthritic pain, but so worth the great time I had riding!!!
Next, play the gimpy card. You are a gimp, you can play that card. There are chairs that do not require any steps that also have extra leg room. I have found that when I HAVE to have my feet up, bringing a walker gives me a place to elevate them with no worries about theater folk getting unhappy at you. I also ALWAYS bring a blanket to go over my legs. My main issue NOW may be my crushed spine, but it used to be my knees, overstressed from the Army.
Then, like Bill said, just wait for everyone else to leave before you even start to get up. You can request help or escort from the staff.
Heck, start small... I would love you to play me a song!!! I love to listen to guitars. I used to play the piano. I gave it up because I SUCKED!!!!! I have no natural timing and never have!!
For a while my daughter tried to play the clarinet... she has my lack of skill with musical instruments!! I used to call her my moose...
So, make a girl smile and play me a song... :)
