New Oxycontin version- OP?

What is this new OP? What does that stand for ( *OP*) In what way did they change it? I have heard so many negative things about it now and I dont understand what they could have changed in the former to make such a huge difference for people. It really makes me angry when a medication that someone has been stable on is all of a sudden changed and different than what they are used to! Its hard enough to find what works, but also the dosage that will be just right etc etc. But they dont care that everyone is completely different!

I may be mistaken,but I believe it is suppose to have a new coating on it so it isn't as easy to use for making illegal drugs. I hope this helps a little.

I believe OP stands for Oxy Polymer as they added polymers of glue to it so that it can no longer be broken down for illicit drug use! Its not just a new coating, its glue actually in the pill itself. The pill never breaks down or shrinks as it releases medication; it actually swells up to 3 times its size! It is causing nausea, stomach pain, severe constipation and intestinal issues! For me, it has caused 2 GI blockages and the dose that formerly completely handled my pain now doesn't even touch my pain. Let alone it takes hours and hours for it to even begin to work! Its an awful awful drug and I've read that Pharma changed it simply to be able to extend their patent as the end of the patent is nearing allowing other manufactuers to copy the drug offering a generic! The FDA or DEA did not force them to change it because of the high incidence of drug abuse/selling, etc....
Its a shame because, your right, so many people were stable on this drug and it worked pain relieving miracles for 100s of thousands and now, we are all struggling to replace it!

I think in my mind it stands for "Oh Puck" someone screwed up my meds that were working so well.
In the long run I've come out ahead and my new med cost a fraction of what I was spending on the oxy but I'm still mad about it and could probably rant all day about it. For me it took longer to start working and didn't work nearly as well. I had stomach issues with it that I never had with the original version and I'm real happy to be off of it.

I have to agree with Kansass, The new formula is so that druggies can not abuse it anymore, all though I have heard that they have already figured out a way around the polymers. Isn't that sad? I had to stop taking it because with the polymers that they added, it made it even slower to break down and get into our systems, with my Crohns, my gut is very fast and the pill would actually come out whole!!! No relief for me! It is so sad that drug companies feel that they have to change the formula of meds because of the druggies. They don't want them to overdose on accident, so they change things and in the long run, they are hurting the people that they are making these drugs for!!! I'm like Kansass, I could rant all day about how screwed up this whole thing is!
