I know the TMJ has its own set of painful issues to deal with.
If you don't think your current Dr. is getting you the pain relief you need, have you considered getting a different Dr.? IC is not a condition that gets much relief from narcotic meds. But it the other meds are given in the right dose and combination they should give you relief from the symptoms.
And it can be very frustrating at times, treating Chronic Pain isn't an exact science unfortunately, much of the time there's a lot of trial and error until the right "fix" is found and the pain is alleviated for periods of time.
As for your job, if your Dr. lists your illness as disabling or debilitating, and your doing your job according to your Job Description, you may have protection under the Americans with Disabilities Act. You'd have to look it up and see where you fall in the classifications.
