Medical marijuana is legal in many states now and they say it helps with pain. Outside of that and traditional pain meds like ibprofen, naproxen and tylenol, I can't think of any legal means of obtaining narcotic pain meds.

Doctors are extremely careful nowadays due to the number of deaths from addiction to pain meds so if they find none in your system, they may think you are either selling them or giving them to someone else.

Years ago, it use to be easy to beat the system but it's not like that anymore but I wish you luck.

Legal Recourse meaning can you force him to keep treating you? No. You have no proof that you're taking your meds as RX'd and they have medical tests that prove otherwise.

As to whether a new Dr. will treat you, it's up to the Dr. and where you live and what Illness you have and what kind of pain you're treated for....lots of factors. But this will be a red flag in your medical record.

I was recently "fired" by my pain doc for getting pain medicine from my PCP while I didn't have insurance and didn't see him and getting it from the ER with a follow up script. I was told that it is up to the new doctor as to whether they will take you on as a patient or not. Right now, my pcp gave me a month's worth after she called me while I was crying in pain. I am lucky she understands as I am in the middle of another diagnosis.

Yes, I agree with above, that docs are being much more scrutinized with opioid addiciton crackdown. Try not to take it personally. Just move on if you have to. I would plead your case first though and see if he will make an exception due to whatever circumstances you were undergoing, like, he was not managing your pain properly, that you needed breakthrough medicine or whatnot.

As OlderCPer stated you have no proof you are taking your pain medication if the test is negative for it. It is up to each doctor how they deal with individual patients that fail drug screens.

If you have to find a new doctor. A new doctor may or may not prescribe the same pain medication your previous doctor prescribed or at the same dosage.

Call your insurance company and ask for a list of Pain Management Doctors in your area that accepts your insurance. You might have to see several doctors before you find one that is the right fit.

There are chemical explanations in the body and the way drugs metabolize that can sometimes explain why certain opioid/narcotic meds show too much of one or the other in a Drug Screen.

But it takes days for Opioids/Narcotics to clear the body, so for your Drug Screen to show No evidence of them....that will be very difficult to fight.

If your on a Pain Contract then your Pain Dr. has the right to terminate your parental rights per that contract.

Also if your on a Pain Contract with a Pain Dr. it makes it pretty clear that you are not allowed to get narcotic/opioid medications from any other source or you will be terminated.

I hope the laboratory test can show the meds. I am now being pee tested for the first time in 8 years. My new pain doc has a laboratory that not only tests for drugs, but also uses your own DNA profile to ensure you're not using someone else's urine. I have no problem at all being tested. I'm not one bit offended by it. I told the doc that if it helps weed out the abusers who give CPP a bad name, then test me all you want. I'm doing better than I was last time I posted too. I can't figure it out, but only using under 30 Norco a month and PRN only. I think having my blood super-thinned is what is working at keeping me on a low dose of pain meds. My INR has been 4.2 for 2 weeks now. It is really high, bit not for APS disease. So, as long as I feel good imma leave it right there. When I had my pain higher, I was bouncing back and forth every week from blood as thick as a non-medicated person, to sort of high INR and possibly clots were forming.

Docs basically do what they want now with pain meds. My other pain doc's saw me working part time and started cutting back my meds without even telling me. Then they kept sending me over and over to different vascular docs who kept telling them there is no surgery than can do for me. New pain doc is sending me to physical therapy. I don't think they are going to be able to get my bad leg to climb stairs seeing them a couple of times a month for fifteen minutes. They are pushing everything but opiates. My new doc would not write pain script on first visit. That is how I knew she was a good doc. But she is also sending me to a vascular doc for a 3d 4d opinion. The only problem is that I've already seen all of the vascular doc's/surgeon's in the area who take this insurance. Every time she gets me a new referral, I already have seen that doc and have a letter from that doc that the only thing they can do is to send me to pain management. Doc's are being put in prison for patients who overdose. I don't agree with this, because the doc is not responsible for someone who takes a weeks worth of meds in one night. Even one of us can do the same and why is the doc responsible? But that is how it is. I think if I stopped working as a commercial cleaner, I would be able to go down to like 10 pills a month, maybe none. But this job is the only thing keeping me active. It's like paid physical therapy. Two years ago I could have never been out bee bopping around for 5-6 hours at a time, let alone for three consecutive days. But the leg still cannot climb. It is still fifty percent weaker than the good leg. I doubt that will ever change.

This happened to me once and I felt like they made a mistake because I was taking my breakthrough meds. The pain clinic retested and the results were positive. I hate that physicians assistants, and even doctors, can be accusatory without merit. I hope everything works out for you.

A friend of mine tested positive fro Hydrocode (he takes something different). They were going to cancel him. He then got a call from the Doctor apologizing because when he read the med reports again about the new med he had put my friend on, it said that this medication 'can' show a false positive for Hydrocodone. I'm grateful this worked out as he is a good friend and a good patient. There's ALWAYS that underlying print!

The best thing to do before the appointment is take the med as close to the appointment as possible and the night before. Sometimes my tests were negative when I was taking only 1 tab per day.
I think the doc is being tough on you because something happened.
