I have several herniated dics in my back. I have had cervical disc surgery in Jan and I dont feel it has helped much yet. I take pain killers and receive nerve block injections once a week for neck and lower back. My lower back a several herniated disc as well. My doctor thinks I should have lower back surgery as well now. I have doubts about that. I have been in pain for 16 months now every day!! Your thoughts and advice please.
I would seek out a spine specialist & get a second opinion. In my opinion injections every week are not only hard on your body, your Dr makes a nice little amount from these but if you are not getting any relief you have the right to refuse. As far as having surgery on your lower back you didn't mention which levels you have herniation at. If it were me I would do it if it would bring relief. I had surgery on L5-S1 five times as the Graf wouldn't take. On the fifth surgery they gave me a bone growth shot and it finally fused. Do I still have pain, yes, but that's because T-3&4 are bad and the surgery to fuse these discs is really serious. To quote my Dr. "If I fuse these discs you will probably end up paralyzed or dead." To which I replied bring it on. My Dr is a top spinal specialist & I trust him. I'm done with back surgeries for now I've had enough I had all nine in nine years & in between all those I had four other surgeries. If you decide to have the surgery I would really check out the Dr. If you feel comfortable it would help to know what levels are involved so that others can give you suggestions. I'm sending up prayers for healing & comfort. Also I don't recall seeing you on this board before so welcome! You will find many caring, informative & supportive people here.

I have found this board helpful already.
I m suppose to have another surgery, not on the spine, but i am seriously considering waiting because of how stressed out my body is from healing.
I know surgeons mean well, but many times they do not see beyond the OR and how hard it is to recover after. They say " 2 months " , but many spine patients I worked with , unless they had a simple 1 level discectomy/laminectomy, it took at least 6 months to get better.
Lots to consider..
