Hi JC, this is so ironic that you brought this up as I just read about it last night. I came across a group on FB by accident called Surviving Chronic Pain. If you scroll down maybe 10-15 posts you'll be able to find it.

Anyhow in this post it said it is currently illegal in Wisconsin, Illinois, Tennessee, Indiana and Sarasosta County Florida.

The first reply said to stay away from it, but there were 8 replies to that one and each person said how wonderful it was for them, with no side effects or trouble with withdrawls.

That said, this post explained the five different plants and what each is used for. I may be wrong on the number of different plants as I read it around 2:00am but am fairly certain its correct give or take one. I found it really interesting. Rather than remember exact facts incorrectly I recommend anyone interested in it to go to above group and scroll down until you find it. The post starts with a caution that Adult content follows. I hope I'm not breaking any rules by sharing this. It's an open group and as I said it's worth a read if interested.

I read an article in the New England Journal of Medicine a couple months back about Kratom and how it was being ruled illegal in many States and would most likely be illegal in all States soon. Strangely enough its indigenous to Thailand and although a natural plant there, it's been outlawed in Thailand for 70 yrs. It does have medicinal properties, although their not completely understood, but its also a Psychoactive drug that when the leaves are chewed can cause "acid trip" type psychotic episodes. The leaves can also act as a "mood elevation" element which can be dangerous for people using Seratonin altering meds. Mitragyna speciosa, the proper name, is a member of the coffee family, so of course its addictive as well.

Yet another herbal that might be helpful, but feared with good reason, because what is known about it could be dangerous....

One thing I find ironic is "Spice" which is synthetic marijuana is sold in just about every convenience/gas station there is....and it's danger has been proven by multiple deaths, your organs literally boil as your temperature climbs higher and higher...but you can buy it anywhere.

We live in strange times.

@mike.... I'd be all for more plant based substances creating medications that worked...generally they're safer, have less side effects and are cheaper to create because the plants can be reproduced through green house planting year round...its a matter of making them safe and controlling potency of original matter as new generations of plants are grown.

Sometimes I sit and laugh in wonder when I hear a new drug being touted on a TV ad, as the side effects list is so long and so alarming, you think, "who the hell would ever want all that just to get a bit of relief?" its insane at times. But finding chemical combinations that work on illnesses & disease can be very difficult and then you have to start "watering them down" for lack of a better term to get rid of the side effects, but you can only reduce the active ingredient by so much and add so many additives or the med won't do what it was created to do. When you think that the side effects listed are the one's left, you start to wonder what the heck did this chemical do when it was first tested and trialed....its a scary thought.

Yes we will make you stay away from the psychotic class drugs, no need to bring up old demons.

The fact that you've had such a long stabilized period is really amazing and I am very glad that you don't have to live with that hell every day my friend.

I will attest to the fact that Kratom does work for pain. It provides a mild calming and pain relieving effect. It is comparable to Norco. It just doesn't last as long. Kratom can also be a life saver when you are going through withdrawals. It can help suppress withdrawal symptoms. I sometimes tae a few days off of my pain meds in order to keep my tolerance down. I use Red Bali Kratom once or twice a day during those days. I also keep it on hand for whenever I get yanked off of my pain meds. Some states ban it, some do not. I do know they banned it in Thailand because construction workers were using it to help them get through the really long hard work days. They were abusing it. I think this plant is good a as a medicine as long as you do not abuse it. have had no adverse psychoactive reactions to this medicine. I have more psychoactive effects from MMJ than I do from this supplement. The only disadvantage is that it tastes like you're drinking freshly chopped wet grass.

There are a lot of supplements out there that you can take to help with pain. Turmeric is also a good pain reliever. But since I am on Warfarin (and Warfarin literally reacts with just about every supplement out there) I have to be careful about what I take. Kratom does not mess with my INR level like Turmeric would. I also don't see how one would get addicted to Kratom unless you are eating pounds of it.

I was just talking with my husband last night about the research I've been doing on it. It seems to show promise as being effective for a number of things..
The one relating to CPers most being .. its anti-inflamatory property.

"" they" have tried to illegalize it,
But, those who produce it keep making just enough of a chemical change in it each time, that they can't keep up with it.
It is SO dangerous.
I'm in contact with a Mother whose teen daughter had a catastrophic stroke from Spice, and permanently disabled. She and her daughter are spokespersons for a group trying to keep the drive to have/keep it illegal. I'll post the name of the group later when I refind it.

my niece's husband is the Kentucky State Highway Patrols Drug chemist and he said all those designer drugs and fake pot are so so bad for people that it is just so sick to see them out there on shelf in business I would quit doing business with that owner if he put that stuff on shelf of business I was going to....just do not support the business that sells drugs that are hugely bad for people....

anyway yes they keep changing the formula of those designer drugs to keep from having them illegal...but the truth is they should be controlled by the FDA and made illegal by the FDA and kept off the shelf of local gas station near high school where kids take it thinking it will help them fly and then have distruction of stroke to deal with for 30-60more years of a horridly disfunctional life

I was at a meetup yesterday and learned the lady who walked with cane and could clearly be seen as having had a stroke had her stroke at 32.....she is over 50 now and is still having to face disability that occurred due to her stroke...I do not know how she had stroke and am not saying it was from drugs but if these dang drugs cause strokes they should not be for sale in gas station at corner of high school lane....

That's what happens when they have prohibition on the real drugs like Marijuana. The kids will try and find other ways to get high. I don't condone it, but that is what is happening It would be much safer to just let these kids smoke a few bowls of weed. I never liked getting drunk or high, so that was a non-issue for me as a kid. Those bath salt spices are illegal, but they keep on changing the formula and it takes the government a while to figure it out and then ban the new formula. I saw a small documentary on that where this kid was screaming in the back of a police car. He was going psychotic from that stuff. Apparently there are some kids who use that stuff long term and do not have strokes. Every drug does different things to different people!

....and yes I imagine every parent with a pre-teen or teenager is aware of the world of spice and bath salts, they're bad knews. Luckily I live in a very "parent oriented" city so all it takes is a few post down the internet lines. Then we see that crap on the register wracks at the store, we buy it and take it to the cops for legal destruction.

I don't want that crap out on the street when I have a teenager still out there in High School.

I will also never allow them to have legal marijuana. Yeah i'm one of the goody, goody's, never smoked, never did drugs, and was deathly allergic to alcohol.

I want my remaining 17 yr. old to be safe in his Sr. year of Football and Starting Center position. He doesn't mess around with drugs. And when you watch your dad pop a top from 7:00 am every morning and drink beer until he goes to bed each night around 11:00 p.m. So both my sons have a very good front row seat for why they don't want to drink and never did!

One thing you said bothered me a bit Jerry, you said that no matter what we take away they'll just cook up something new. And your probably right, then we'll have another synthetic to get off the street. But there doesn't have to be, the gas stations & Zippy Marts can quit carrying it & selling it.,the kids can just go back to having nothing. Where's the rule that says we have to make it easier for them to get a buzz and then get dead??????? Don't we owe them a heckuva lot more than that???

The teens that I work with during the week don't give a rats butt about spice or any of those crappy instant high synthetic mixes. All they want is to get their self injury under control, and succeed by eating on their calorie plans and doing what their asked in group and getting back on with their life.
