I would definately stay away from nerve burning. It won't fix the function of the knee, only the pain. Have you tried something like neurontin? That would also block the nerve pain which would give you an indication of how well a nerve burn would work.
Another question i would have is " if i develop post op infection, is my body ready to deal with the treatment? "
Nerve ablation also carries risks, but it is less difficult IMO than prosthesis and i completely agree - nerves grow back and on top of it, the damaged nerve can develop neuromas which are painful as hell.
It is definitely a difficult decision. Hope you get the answer and a good resolution to pain.
