Jury duty?

I just got a notice for jury duty. There is no way I can do it with this chronic pain. I can't even drive to the court house. Sitting in those chairs all day will kill me. And with all these pain meds I doubt I could think straight. Anybody ever been in this situation? Do you think I can get excused. It's really not good for my condition

I agree with patti22, your doctor should be able to write a short letter on their letterhead paper asking that you be dismissed, or not appear at all. That is what I did just this week, and the last time that I was called about three years ago. Was not an issue with the doctor or courts.

Yes, I am sure you can be excused due to your health problems and I think a doctor's note would suffice.

I would ask a doctor to wrote you a note. Just be prepared for some resistance as I have overheard one doc lambasting a nurse for bringing him a slip to fill out to get out of jury duty for one of his patients. He said he does not fill out any paperwork. I simply kept on writing to them explaining that the walking from the huge parking complex two blocks to the courthouse and sitting in a chair would bring me really immense pain. It was a back and forth for a few weeks and now they do not bother me anymore. You got to wear them down until their effort to get you to comply is no longer worth the time and they move on to someone else. lol

I personally do not want to send anyone to prison either. It goes against my moral beliefs.

You need to contact the office the Jury Summons came from. Explain your situation. Ask what you need to do to be excused.

Do not let this slide. They can and may well issue a warrant for your arrest. If you are not Officially Excused. or if you do not show up.

i did get a doctors note. now i am waiting for the court to send me some kind of form to fill out because i told them i am unable to serve.we will see how it goes. the doctors note is pretty powerful

The methods to getting exceptions seems to vary by state or maybe even by county. Where I live in Harris County, TX (the home of Houston) the summons makes it clear that they don't want any phone calls nor do they send a response to any letters that they receive. One just has to believe that they received and accepted the doctor's letter that I sent them. No police showed up at my door the last time I requested a waiver and I hope they don't come by this time either.

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
