I have not tried a tens unit yet, but I might just go ahead and buy one. I really want to get to the bottom of my leg pain issues so that I can go back to driving. I can live with the limited walking due to the damaged veins because driving a truck does not require a lot of walking. I just need to get rid of the pain so that I'm not driving down the highway angry all of the time. I might decide to ram into someone on a bad pain day lol. I'm glad that you're getting some relief from the new tens unit, Yadlim. I hope it give you substantial gains in pain reduction over the next few days.. Anything that can provide a one, two, three, or even half a point of reduction in our pain levels is just one more addition to our pain management tool kit! I hope you feel better soon! Hugs!

I wish I knew where to place a tens unit to help me. Back is not issue. Knees and shoulder are. I had tens in PT on knees but didnt realize too much help for them because it was end of long workout and they added ice or heat on leg with tens. No help in my book to best of my knowing.

I have a TENs, but it is prescription. It has 2 wires with 2 electrode ports on each. I usually use only one line.
It works really well on nerve and muscle pain and a little for bone pain.

I've never tried this unit. I was just wondering if it's something like what "Dr." Ho advertises in his infomercials and makes muscles jump. I got the one from Dr. Ho and it was a piece of junk.

Are there any others out there who have had any sort of success with a tens unit? If so, what is the model of the unit that you're using. I've seen a few out there that are under fifty bucks. I'm just wondering if those units are any good, or if there are more powerful/expensive prescription quality units on the market. I think trying a tens unit would give me some sort of rough idea if a spinal cord stimulator would work, because it works on the same basic principal that the SCS works on. I can get a rough idea on how well an SCS will work based on a trial run with a tens unit. Plus I can always return the tens unit to Wally World if it is not effective.

I meant to say that I can always "pull a Bill" and return the tens unit if it does not work. lol

I brought an Icy Hot TENS unit for my wife several weeks ago for less than $30 from a local store. She has an expensive prescription TENS unit that she seldom uses because of the pain of the wires.

She has used the Icy Hot TENS unit (for back pain, BTW) on and off for several weeks now. She really likes that she can place the pad/control unit on her back before getting dressed and leave it there all day and turn it on and off as needed. She is still using the first pad, but has used it enough to run-down the first battery. The battery is easy to replace (CR2032) and available many places (real cheap on Amazon).

I would say, based on her comments, a big thumbs-up. If you like the TENS affect, then I would recommend that you give it a try.

A couple of years ago I got an Impulse TENS from BioMedical through Kaiser. The only advantage I saw was that it was cheaper to pay the co-pay through my insurance than buy it outright, although I get replacement pads on Amazon for cheaper than re-ordering through BioMedical.

I use the unit for my shoulder and neck pain and it works pretty well as long as I don't move around too much. It has a pulse feature that seems to get into more deep tissue. The only thing I dislike about it is the clunky box thing that I clamp onto my belt or waistband. It's over an inch thick and about the size of a garage door remote and hard to keep in one place.

So, having had this unit for a day now, and having used it twice - I will use it again once hubby is awake and can put it on the right spot on my back for me - I like it a lot.

It is small and easy to use. I felt the relief in my back well past when I took it off. My back still felt good when I went to bed and is probably the reason I am having a good pain day today.

At a upfront cost of $30 and then just need to replace batteries as needed (I can't think that it will last too long!) I think it is well worth it for the amount of relief I got from it. This is the item I am talking about if anyone can't find it. There is also a $5 off coupon on this site - wish I had noted that yesterday, oh well.
