I had something awful happen on April 27th. First though these are the medicines I take right now:
Fentanyl Patch 25mcg every 72 hours
Dilaudid 4mg
Lyrica 75mg three times daily
Valium 5mg for muscle spasms
I was on the 4th day of a fentanyl patch I know change every 72 hours but i had to wait on a doctors appt on the 27th for a refill and i thought i would be ok I had some medicine in it left. I felt sick that whole day and that night after the appt I went to have my prescription filled. I was unable to drive and my second mom went with me. Well I use a walker now and I fell oh so wrong in the parking lot. Just as soon as I got away from the car two steps and down I went. So my mom took me to the Emergency Room. This is where it got scary I do not remember most of it so bear with me. I am getting the records next week. I got through triage right away I was in ALOT of pain and my blood pressure was all the way around 141 over some other big number. Just felt like it was racing. My mom couldnt wait for me so when I had to use the restroom the nurse would help me walk down but I would fall two more times in the bathroom. After that they wouldnt let me out of the bed. For me to have pain medicine there they said I could have a replace patch or have fentanyl in my IV. I never heard of that so i just asked for it to be in the IV. I was throwing up bad too and the crappy thing was that after the first time they moved my bucket so the second time it was all over the gurney and floor. Sorry gross I know I was so upset. After that the nurse helped me into a new gown and they cleaned the bed got me new blankets. Then she sat down to tell me that Dr was going to admit me and I really needed to call my husband and tell him what was going on because she said that I was a very very sick little girl. They all know me by now and they definately know my husband since he works on the ambulance here in town. He used to get embarrassed when I would go to the ER because they all know him and he would say I was wasting there time. That it was bs and I shouldnt go when Im in pain like that I should take my medicine or a warm bath. That was the last thing I remember though is me giving the nurse permission to call him at work and tell him to come to the hospital. Right after she left my very last memory is having very painful muscle spasms. They were so bad I screamed every time my arm jerked out. My husband told me the next day that I had, had a seizure. That I had been unconscious and I hurt myself pretty bad from it I bruised my arms on the bars on the bed. I just remember waking up and there were big blue pads on the bed and they had me on my side. He said I was lucky I was already there when I had the seizure and I wasnt driving. I cannot remember the two weeks I spent there in the hospital but my hubby said it was very scary how confused I was when i woke up. I didnt know where I was and I kept asking my husband for my mom and she passed when I was 15 in May 2001. He said I cried every night for her. He doesnt know just yet that I still cannot remember anything but while I was there they weaned me off ALL my medicine so I have been in so much pain this past week I was there until the 7th. My heart would just race so they placed me on the telemetry floor. I remember the MRI they did a few days later but only because it wasa closed one and I was hurting and had muscle spasms and I was very claustraphobic. I wanted out just so bad. At least in Phoenix when they did one I was sedated and fell asleep this I guess they did do one when i was still unconsious but then did another. I dont even know when he got to the hospital and how long I was out for. I do know that he said the medication caused the seizure but people have told me two stories one was I had too much pain medication and the other was that i had quit taking the medication. The scariest part is I had another seizure last night here at home. He was here with me and called an ambulance but we didnt go to the ER. I cannot remember anything from that one too. I remember being in the bathroom because i felt sick again then just being on the floor. I hit my head on the edge of our tub and we have one with the jets so the tile and grout goes up the side and i hit my head there got a gorgeous bruise and cut then the shower curtain was near me too. I am getting the records from the hospital because I am so embarrassed to tell my husband that I cannot remember anything. The hardest part was mom, I remember crying every night there but I think he said it was like I just found out I was very out of it he said. Im frankly scared. I have never had a seizure before and not one that scary. My mother in law is dramatic and told me that I almost died because i went into withdrawls but it is not my fault that I couldnt get my medicine without a dr appt and he was so busy. When I returned home my mother in law, hubby, second mom and dad all went through the house and took away ALL of my pain medicine. I have nothing besides naproxen now for my nerve pain, stage 2 endo, and muscle spasms in my pelvic floor and lower back. I was on the medicine for almost 2 years and they told me that I would have muscle spasms from the withdraws for probably anywhere from a few weeks to a couple months. They are so bad in my arms that I havent been sleeping which makes my other pain worse. Hubby doesnt understand either that him cranking the a/c the cold makes it worse too. It was just so bad in the hospital. They had to replace my IV after three days because of the medication they gave me and then I almost had to have a picc line because my veins were so tiny i was dehydrated and they would roll or collapse. My poor arms are just so bruised I was stuck 12 times and even someone from ICU couldnt get one in. Thanks to all my crying too from the pain and just scared and upset I got stuck with 2 days on the 5th floor for mental health lol too help with the withdraws also. Just ever since my heart will feel like it is racing or my chest will hurt. My husband tried to rub my back for me last night but the pain was so bad that he couldnt even touch me. lol he asked if I wanted him to go and find me some weed lol. We do have medical weed here in this state but i dont think a dr will ever prescribe it for anyone. While on the 5th floor I learned that a lot of my pain drs patients go through there when they get off of the meds. Scary so im going to a new neurologist now but crummy thing is he cannot help me or give me any answers until he can go over all of my records.
I guess Im just asking if anyone has ever heard of someone having a seizure because of pain medicine. I have never abused my medicine I take it exactly as I should well not anymore its all gone. They tried to tell me I would go through it all again if I did but look at last night I had no pain medicine and I had another seizure. I still do not know why I have the numbness and turn purple. I am just very worried about this because it is very scary and I dont even know the warning signs for a seizure. Im afraid to be alone but hubby checks on me while at work. Has anyone ever been through that when you dont have your medicine? Go through withdraws and become unconsious or have you stopped taking pain medicine? Does anyone know of any advice you can give me on dealing with pain without pills? I have tried swimming, yoga, and warm baths. But I just cannot sleep at all at night I just cry myself to sleep or will go on the couch and be in the fetal position. I really need help. Im begging I know this is long Im so sorry Im just scared very very scared. woo hearts racing now. That I was told was due to the withdraws but thats why I was weaned off then stopped. Just how does someone have a seizure.

As far as the pain medication, I believe that those opiates you mentioned, at best, would only cause extreme flu like symptoms with cold sweats, chills, diarrhea, itching and most of all, pain.
Find a competent doctor, please! Perhaps consider switching from a benzodiazapine based muscle relaxant to something like Soma, which is carisoprodol. Or the stronger version called Milltown aka meprobamate.
You need to find a good pain management Doctor that will give you the correct medications for your condition. Also you need to see an Endo specialist, not all OBGYN's know Endo, and they don't know how to treat it.
I hope that your husband and family understand that you have a painful condition that needs to be medicated, and that with the correct medications and the correct care, this episode will never happen again.
Take care,
I have never had a seizure but I read your post and I feel for you girl. I know it is hard to be alone when you are afraid something will happen but hopefully you can get a new doc and they can help you so you don't have to be so worried. Is there any family or friends who can spend some time with you during the day while you're husband is gone? Or can you go to someone's house? I am really sorry you had to endure all that and I hope your situation gets much better very soon. Hang in there!!!

I dont take pain meds anymore, i used to take vicoden and morphine till about five weeks ago. I went off with a doctor supervision and i took suboxone for the withdrawels. I was having to many side effects from the meds, so it was my decision to go off.
I have pain everyday, but i am glad i went off the pain pills, pain is managable with other methods sometimes, and I feel mentally better now and i have much more energy without the pills.
Sometimes no matter how many baths i take and stretching i do, i hurt and i have to go and lay down till the muscle spasms lesson and the pain decreases a bit. I am still learning ways to control the pain and have been looking into medical marijuana, it is not so far fetched, it does wonders.
I know it must of been really hard for you these past weeks, but it will get better. What are you going to do know, since your seizure were due to withdrawals because you could not get an doctor appt, are you going to go back on them?
Do you know why they just didnt give you meds in the hospital why they opted to just take you off all of them, you said you didnt abuse the pills and took them according to rx, so why did they force you into withdrawals?
I hope you feel better soon,
I am so sorry they put you through that and then your family to take away all your meds. You being in the pain that your in shows you still need the medication. Have you talked with your pain doc? Hopefully at your nevt appointment he can get you back on something for your pain.
