ok, I had a laporoscopy last week, I didnt speak to the doc, hubby did)
My appendix was stuck to by bowel, covered by adhesions, she "unsrtuck" it and covered it in adhesion barrier( mesh), I wish they would have just took it out. Also, they found 4 staples, now if she was hiding anything she wouldnt have taken pics and told me right? what are they from? I was never told by anyone that ANY staples were left in. She said that to remove them she would need another surgeon to help her( I dont want to do this again!!!) Oh, and she said if I continue to have pain that we may have to remove them, she said some people arent bothered and some who are. I have a lot of questions to ask her on the 5th. If she left them in by accident shouldnt they pay my lost wages and for the surgery?IF I even do it.
I did have a laporotomy in 07 to remove endo from ureter, hyst in 2000.

Usually staples are only used for larger incisions and should be taken out in about a week. If they aren't the skin can heal around them and migrate inward. This would be my guess about what happened. I know I had staples for a c-section and also for my spine surgery.
Strange hu. glad to know im not the only one someone failed to inform about that.

I do think if you are having pain that it would be from the mesh and not the staples. I had mesh put in me from my hernia surgery and have been having horrible pain from it ever since. Mesh sucks.
Sort of like when they put plates and screws in to hold broken bones together until they heal. They leave those in too unless they cause problems.
I hope you feel better soon.
I doubt it to be honest they will pay for any lost wages especially if it is common practice to leave the staples from surgery's and even if they dont getting them to pay would involve a lawyer and years of litigation to get any sort of compensation.
It sucks as you are the one going through the pain and then the financial risk when you take off to get it repaired.
I know it must have been a real shock to find out you have staples in your body. And I am sorry that the doctor did not talk to directly to you. Even though modern medicine has grown tremendously some of it's practices still seem a bit Medieval to me. Though I would not be here today if it were not for the the practice of surgery. And you, too, stated that you needed several surgeries in the past for various reasons. If indeed, leaving staples in while a person heals after surgery is a common practice then I think it is understandable. But, I do believe that the patient has a right to know what is in their bodies. You should have been told. For one thing going for an MRI they always ask if you have any metal in your body. I am not sure if the staples would qualify, but it would be better to be safe than sorry.
And what I mean about modern medicine still being a bit Medieval, here is an example. I had Gamma Knife treatment for a brain tumor at a huge hospital. They had to fit a metal frame over my head and to do this they drilled into my skull in four places. They didn't use a high tech medical looking drill, nope it was a regular old Black & Decker. that freaked me out. But it worked and I am still here. Though I would not run to sign up for the experience again.
I know how you are feeling. But the medicine we have today is the best we have. We can get frustrated about it and believe me I do get frustrated, but I still need it. They do the best for us with what they know and the equipment they have. Unfortunately, they still have much to learn.
