Megan i am sorry for your pain, Is there anything else that you can do for the pain besides meds? since your period's are so long and frequent it is probably not a good idea to be taking so many pain pills so often for break though. How long does the doctor say your periods will be messed up?

Maybe the doctor can do another shot, for the pain. Just from my experience is that doctors do not like to keep on prescribing pain meds especially if it is alot, and i am concerned for you what happens when he says no more. Hopefully by then you can have a back up plan that is already working, what i am trying to say is get your refills but try and find something else that will ease the pain, that way you will have enough in back up for when it is really bad, and that they will work.

You know just like me, after taking them for awhile your tolerance will be up there so you will eventually need more then the 5 to get through the day, and you cant really take anymore safety. so if you can find something else then when you do take them they will work with only a few

Oops i forgot to ask, do you take any pain releivers other then oxy for breakthough, like a daily pill i take kadian which is a long acting pill, and it works good for me

thank you manny for your reply I do not take my pain meds when i do not have my period but lately they are more frequent and longer. im having a sonohsytogram basicaly to see why they are so long and to see if there is anything in my uterus to cause me so much pain and bleeding. then we will go from there because they also want to do another surgery for me. before i take any of pain meds i always try to use my lidoderm patches, a heating pad, baths when i can handle them, and i try to take my mind off of the pain by working on puzzles, school work, talking on the phone, and definatly pogo.com i like to play bingo and actually played one night through the pain because for one of my other tests i could not take anything for it. was an extremely rough night. and the 5 pills a day that might be my worst days. I spoke with my hubby's paramedic friend and they were talking about it while packing because we are working on moving out of here and into the new house he said that me taking 3-4 a day for my pain isnt bad at all my prescription is take 1-2 every four hours. so for my worst pain i take 2 at a time after i have tried everything else. it is just i think my block has stopped working because they were never this painful at all after the block only before it.

yes i take ibprofin every 6 hours because i called my gyn for the prolonged cycles they told me it would reduce the inflamation and help stop it but that was last week and it was supposed to stop in 48 hours. Im getting really worried but they told me just to keep at it. My cycle is still really heavy and it hurts just so bad in my hips that i can hardly walk today im just kinda puttin around the house reminds me of my grandma lol and im only 23. I called my gyn dr and they said that he would call me back. The gyn said i might have to go to the er if the cycle lasts any longer just so they can control the pain and hopefully run some tests to see why i still have it. really really frustrating

i think i asked this question as well as a couple other posters but cant find the thread-have your doctors discussed eliminating or stopping your periods for a time to give your body a break?

I would describe what you just said here... I would think any reasonable Dr. would see you need a change of some kind to help you...

Oh yea, will that work to stop your periods when i had some epidural shots i didn't have a period for almost a year.

wow you are so young, i am sorry that this pain is controling your life, i wish you only had to worry about was moving.

i hope the doctors get their butt moving and find something that will work.

Like Krissy said, is your doctor willing to put you on a type of birthcontrol that you don't have to stop taking for a week every month ( some thing like the depo-provera shot) so that your periods will stop for a while? I understand the pain that you are going through with your period, as I am the same way. Best wishes, and good luck with your doctors.

You might want to try Naproxen (two Aleve) instead of Ibuprofen. It is another NSAID which will also help decrease inflammation and can help your cycle because it too reduces prostaglandins.

There is a progesterone pill which is used in cancer treatment and other gynecological problems called Megestrol. My friend was having periods that wouldn't stop, they put her on this as well as Naproxen. You might want to ask about it.

I have tried taking the depo shot, patches, i cannot take anything with estrogen and we tried the IUD because it really is basically my last resort to try but since I had pelvic inflammatory disease im not sure what to do anymore but to wait until next week for when i have my test done. im so worried about it they said there could be fibriods or cysts. i dont know though the pain keeps shooting down into my thighs and down to my toes my foot will actually turn. i fell when i went to vote today and had to go down the stairs im so frustrated. sorry for ranting and whining all the time guys it just seems that everytime i find something that works something goes wrong and you know my hubby said my pain might just be worse because of us moving and me trying to help just being outside in the sun causes my hands and feet to swell. well guys im really tired i havent been sleeping well again either i toss and turn and i wake up every hour or so. like i said just really frustrated and i really hate neuropathy.

I;m sorry you are in such pain. Maybe I read the post too fast but it seems your main ? here is how to tell your doc(s) you need more or something different.
If your doc makes you feel that you cannot bring these issues to him (them) then you need to either state to them directly that you do not feel comfortable talking to them about your needs (a catch 22 if you don;t feel comfortable talking to them) or change docs.
I would hate to see you caught as above and I know how hard it can be to chnage docs but something isn't working right between you and them if you can't approach them with one of the most important issues for you.
