Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
I've been in pain 24/7 since my major car accident back on January 25, 2000. I damaged my right ankle, r/knee, r/pelvic bone, r/ shoulder, ruptured and herniated 80% of my c-spine, and had my r/bicep muscle torn. It took about a year for the docs and PT's to get me to a level of pain that I could live with. That all changed about 5 years ago. Each year my pain level would go up slowly. But 5 years ago, it began to get really bad. The pain was too much to handle. That's when I had my shoulder operated on. The operation was not a success to say the least. My Orthopedic doc told me to seek out a pain management doctor. I did and they really helped me. I have to take 4 Oxycodone a day just to stay at a level 2-3 pain. In those 5 years, as I'm getting older, all the other injuries are kicking in. I get plenty of Cortisone injections in my neck, shoulder and knee. I also get a Synvisc injection in my knee every 6 months. I fear for my future. There's no way I can have quality of life without pain meds. With them, I'm able to be out doors, hike and climb small mountains....just live and function as a person! Without them, (and I've tried), the pain is so intense that all I can do is sit home and wonder when the pain will be so bad, that it will make me pass out. Oh, I forgot to tell you that I also have seizure disorder from my c-spine injury. My sprits are good, but I'm now hearing from my pain management doctor that the government is cracking down on opiate pain meds. My PM Doc has a certain amount that he's allowed to give to his patients. Why is the gov. doing this to us people who REALLY need pain meds?! I see my doc every month and I'm drug tested about every 2 months. Why pick on us? Go after the junkies!
So this is why I'm worried about my future. I have to live on these pain meds for ever my PM Doc said. What if the gov. decides to take them away? I hear so much on TV and the radio about them wanting to do this. I'm scared and don't think I could survive in the level of pain I'd be in if they take away pain meds.
I'm such a happy person, but this is my fear!
I had to drive my hubby to the Dr today and then to the pharmacy to get a Rx of antibiotics. To do this I had to forgo 12 hours of pain meds... in total that was 900mg of Gabapentin and 15mg of hydrocodone. Oh, and my antipanic meds also had to go... no tranquilizers and getting behind the wheel.
I took my noon dose of meds, but it is not touching the pain. Sleep is not an option, even though I have been awake for better than 36 hours now. I hurt too much.
At least I have a bit of extra help in that as I get my meds from the VA, I don't have quite as much difficulty getting them as others do. That said it takes three to four weeks and five or six phone calls to get 28 days worth of my hydrocodone. As I take 30mg a day (six tabs) it is not like going without is going to happen any time soon... though I would do anything to be off opiates...
Sorry - it is a rough day today. I will be ok once I get pain back under control.

I don't think the government will ever be able to take away pain medication. They would have to be out of their minds to even think in that direction. I can't believe that there's no one in the government that has never had pain and had to use pain medication! Don't let them fool you, there are many higher ups that are on pain meds and a lot worse. If you get the show called Drugs, Inc. watch it one day and you will learn a lot about the drugs that are prescribed to exactly the people who are trying to interfere with our pain management. Hugs GB
