Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Yadim I know you had to move the horses because of problems at the last place. Might be time to ask yourself if they think you are imposing before things get out of hand. The kids don't seem to feel an obligation to help. As Ann said you might need to offer them some money unless you are already paying your friend. If you are paying maybe talk to your friend. Things always seem to get complicated when friendships are involved. I hope things settle down for your sake and for the horses.
Two of the horses on the property are mine, three belong to my friend, one more to her mother. The majority of horses going hungry were not mine... but belong to the mother and grandmother of the female teen. I had enough hay to last two more weeks - but said teen did not mention to her mom that her mom was out of hay, so my hay fed their horses. So yeah, this teen caused the issue from lack of simple communication, she could have gotten up and helped.
My deal with her mom is simple. She feeds my horses hay and their hot mash. In exchange, I my daughter and I work her horses, both getting them back into shape, and trained. I haul her and her horses (and her friends I don't care for) out to trail rides. Trust me, though I am not giving her money, she is getting the much better deal - though I know my horses are safe there so it is worth it to me.
As for feed, it was supposed to be I provide all feed for mine - but the lines have gotten blurred. When I have run low on mash, she has bought extra.
Sorry - I am tired and I am so tired of city people who can't get their hands dirty to get something done...
I don't know if it is feasible for you or not, but I have seen a LOT of people, when they can no longer ride, drive. Back before I was broken, I could train a well trained riding horse to pull a cart in a few days.
I am not talking go out and compete, but go for a relaxing walk around the arena or block. There are zillions of places who have made custom carts for people in wheel chairs to be able to enjoy horses again.
On days I just can't make it into the saddle, I put my Shaman in front of his cart and we go have fun that way. There is a lot less stress on all of you being in a cart rather than ON the horse.
The catch, you probably need someone who can train him to harness and put a few miles on him that way first. Then a cart and harness is actually more expensive than a saddle - but sometimes you can get used stuff for pennies on the dollar. A horse can pull a cart well into their 30s and I have yet to find one who does not LOVE it.
And thank you - for the first time in days I am not angry, but happy thinking about driving my horse.
