My mother has. It really helped her. She had it in her knees. I'll be honest with you, if the dr. or nurse is good and knows what they are doing it doesn't hurt at all according to my mom.

The infected steroids were prefilled syringes used for epidural spinal injections only. Those are usually given under sedation with flouroscopy (xray guided). That's my understanding anyway. I think a knee injection is probably safe but I understand your anxiety.

I have not had knee injections but have had the spinal epidurals-prior to the infected batches thank goodness.

But I'm sure someone will be able to give you the details of their experience.

I am from MA, which is where the manufacturer of the tainted steroids was. It seems that MA was not on the distribution list, or at least that's what I've seen in the news. I've had 2 injections in the last month. I have 2 more scheduled, one for tomorrow.

I plan on asking where the medicine for my injection is coming from, and getting confirmation that it was not from this manufacturer.

As for outcome, like I said I've had two, but in my tailbone which is not where you are having an issue. But I can tell you that they appear to have helped some. I've also been taking Lyrica which seems to be helping also.

Best of luck if you decide to move forward with injections.

I would think twice about getting steroid injections right now, until they sort this thing out. If your doc insists, get him to show you the vial and packaging to make sure it's not from the company who is in trouble. The thing that worries me most is that they found the fungus in a sealed vial- which means it had to have come from the manufacturer. And so many of these are overseas, who knows how many are involved.

If you can hold off for a while, that may be safer.

I've had cortisone shots in my knee with torn cartilage. They helped quite a bit. That was when I was a teenager and it didn't have any long lasting side effects.

i have had them..didnt help....but i did just get out of hospital for m s attack...was getting deckadron//a strong steriod shots thru i v every n4 hours.......it did help but tokhe of meningitis is scarey thing and me personally would maybe do it anyway....just my opinion

Had steroid shots in my right knee about two years ago. It didn't hurt when he did it, had no after effects and I didn't help me. I ended up getting a partial knee replacement shortly after.

Good luck. I'm sure your doctor wouldn't give you a steroid injection that might be tainted. I'd have it done anyway if it were me. I'd trust my doctor.

Had the shot.

Dr assured me there was zero chance of menengitis because meds were not same and not from same manufacturer.

He also said that none of the tainted meds came directly from the manufacturer...they were re-packaged elsewhere is what he heard.

Ask him if he will consider giving you a shot of novacaine in your knee. A friend had them and they lasted 6-8 weeks. She eventually got a knee replacement. Just a thought.

Honestly, the shot was just a tiny bit uncomfortable, but i told the doctor I have had splinters that hurt worse!!!

I get shots of cartizone in my knees pretty often and yes they are slight pain and yes they help sometimes....I usually am going well for first week and that is a good thing....but it then is gone but I know it is good for my knee....

something else I had from a rumetologist was Sinvisc also my ortho gave me sinvisc...which is synthetic viscous fluid which is what is inside the knees...it supposedly helps healing the cartalige but to tell the truth cartalige does not heal fast at all....I have tears in my left knee right now in miniscus....I am hopeful that workmans comp will give me green light for surgery on that left knee....if so I get arthoscopic surgery soon

If your dr knows what he is doing the shot doesn't hurt. There is a space in the outer side of your knee and if they put the needle there it is just like any shot.

i've had about 5 in my back/spine which helped quite a bit, but i had to take a break according to the PM...those were a few years ago.

i've had one in my hip. i experienced a fair amount of bruising and not very long lasting effects, so i'm not keen on doing it there again.

Hi scriberheart, I have had the cortisone injections in both knees prior to having my double knee replacement. The shot helped so much & made the pain tolerable until I had the surgery. I also had a shot several months after knee replacement as I fell & I really tweaked the knee. I want to mention that my shots were cortisone & Lidocaine . I hope all goes well with you & you find something that will ease the pain. The shots did not hurt for me anyways it was equivalent to getting a flue shot. .
