My mom came with me to the consult today and it went alright. We talked to the NPC for close to 20 minutes. He put in orders to schedule the trial for the SCS, but I have to meet with the behavioral health people first to be evaluated. What stinks is that my insurance covers nothing that has to do with mental health. We had hoped that because the behavioral health person is within the scope of the pain management office that it would be covered. But, they rejected the last time I met with the behavioral guy. It's just over $200 for the evaluation and some test I have to take. Don't know what the test would cover, but the scheduling woman said it takes a long time to complete. We haven't scheduled with the behavioral person yet because we are waiting to hear if an intern can do my evaluation and help with some of the cost.
On a side note, I don't think I'm going to stay with the woman I met with as a potential primary care doctor. She did a bunch of lab work last wed and I got the results in the mail today. There were at least four results that were abnormal. My cholesterol is one above the top of the scale and there's multiple things that came back abnormal related to my iron. The envelope I received only contained the lab results, no input on what a course of action might be...I never even got a call to discuss the results. I don't see her for nearly 3 months and I thought she'd at least call me and talk to me about the results. I am going to move on to someone else. I think I need to stick with someone who is part of a larger practice and has walk-in hours. Hopefully I can find someone good.

Psychological testing is required for any kind of implantation surgery where you'll be having the device inside of you for a long period of time and have to deal with having it refilled on a steady schedule. They want to make sure that our psychologically fit enough to handle the surgery and then the taking care of the unit and the refills.
Hell, I had to have a psych review when my left knee was rebuilt with screws, pins and cadaver bone, to make sure I could handle living with cadaver bone implanted in my body.
The mind can be a funky thing and it can refuse some of the physical things we do to the body.
I told the NPC during my consult about the weird goosebumps/cold/tingling sensations I get on my forearms and sometimes up my face and he said it sounded like my nerves were confused, they were sending false sensory data to my brain. He said there isn't really anything he can do, but he mentioned the SCS might help that. He said I definitely wasn't a simple case medically...all the more reason to change PCP to someone with walk-in hours. My mom pointed out that I used those a LOT with my previous PCP.
The test is no big deal. Just answer honestly, and don't exagerate. You'll do fine.
