Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Hello, this is my first post to the group. I've got chronic sinusitis which leads to migraines. Spring allergies have caused another sinus infection, my second one for this month. It came on fast; yesterday I felt fine but last night I felt the familiar scratchy throat and thickening mucus deposits. By nightfall I couldn't breathe through my nose, had total congestion, full ears, dizzy, headaches, sinus pressure, toothaches, --the normal bout of a sinus infection.
Today it was hard to get up and get the kids ready with my head exploding. My husband's sympathy has simply worn off...about 4 years ago. He doesn't know how to respond to me b/c I'm constantly sick. He equates me being constantly sick with me being able to constantly cope with it.
I don't want him to do fix it or me but just extend sympathy or express, 'you must be so frustrated. I'm sorry to learn you are sick. It must be very tiring for you..."
I'm wondering how the rest of you veteran pain warriors handle this.

If you only know one thing about me, it should be _____________________.

I used to get very sick with sinus problems several times a year and if i was faced with continuous problems i would probably get immunized against allergies and have sinus surgery.
If i couldnt eleiminate the cause of my issues, ( and i m not saying my way is the right way) i would try to spare my family from it..
I try the best i can not to talk to them about it, but you deserve sympathy from your husband no matter what.
I also get what your going through with your husband, mine decided my cp was harder on him than me and then he got sick of me ruining his days. I felt guilty for years because our lives changed so much when my back probs started but that guilt then turned to resentment and we seperated in February this year. I'm in no way saying or suggesting separating is what you should do, there are many here who have great marriages or have been helped by counseling, I just told you my story so you know your not the only one with no support and to let you know its not your fault. There are people out there who will never get what its like living with cp, they feel helpless they can't cure us and some are just selfish and only think about how about how it affects their lives. I hope you can get some help or treatment for your sinus problems soon. Take care.
Family is usually the last ones to be sympathetic. I hope you feel better.
Healing hugs and prayers
It seems a Specialist would be able to help you with some of this. My son had Chronic allergy driven sinusitis w/ear infections when he was a young boy. We finally found a good Otolaryngologist to take care of things. He removed a few things like adenoids, tonsils and put tubes in both ears and put him on a daily RX Allergy med and all of that helped him immensely.
Perhaps your husband should go to an appt with you so your Dr. can explain to him what Chronic means? And what your treatment plan is, i.e. what your allowded to do at home or out in the yard.
Take Care,
Kat
But it took a while for him to understand. And for a while, I wanted his sympathy. Ten years later, I have found that I really did not want his sympathy as much as just a bit of extra attention. I have found that I am much happier when I am having a bad pain day if he just wraps me in a few extra hugs and tells me he loves me and that he is there for me no matter what.
I get more from him resting a hand on my shoulder for a minute than from words of sympathy any day. I live for those bits of contact. They give me strength.
My suggestion, is talk to your partner. They can't understand what you need/want/are going through unless you let them know.

This has been so nice to wake up and see all of these sincere and personal comments---thank you!
Fingers crossed that you get much needed relief dear.
