I have been struggling with feeling quite sick since Wed. I think it was interfering with things before Wed, but it has just gotten worse since. I went to the doctor's office on Thursday thinking my knee was infected from where I had fallen last Sunday and that was why I was progressively feeling worse. The doc looked at it and said it did look like an infection might be beginning and prescribed Silvadene to try and help fight the infection and relieve some of the pain from it. She said it looked as though the sidewalk and friction had caused a 2nd degree burn on my knee.
She said the nausea might be an aftereffect of the epidural so I called and left messages with the nurse asking for my pain doc's opinion and of course they never got back to me. I don't know what is causing me to feel like this...this week has been complicated and there could me multiple culprits. I also don't know if there's anything that can be done to help and it sucks that my mom and dad are out of town. I jotted some of the symptoms down, I'd appreciate any help or input any of you guys have...I'm scared right now.
-I feel hot with fever...keep sweating and my skin feels really hot despite my apt being at 70 degrees. I haven't had the low-grade fever I've struggled with these past two days, it's been normal or below normal. But I feel worse than when my temp would hit 101.
-Still can't fully sleep. Just keep drifting in and out all night.
-My throat hurts and when I breathe thru my nose or swallow it hurts worse, like mucus or something is built up and causing this burning sensation.
-My pain has just kept increasing. My knee and upper back/neck just keep hurting worse and my head is god awful. It feels like a ton of pressure is in my head.
-I can't think or focus right now...everything is fuzzy and when I try to focus my head just hurts worse and my eyes get tired quickly. There's like a weird tinge to everything, don't know how to explain it.
-Still feel really really nauseated...but also do feel hungry. It switches between them and I'm scared to eat cus I think I'll throw up.
Sorry this is so long. Just not sure what to do, especially since it's the weekend and I can't go see my doctor. There's an easy care/after hours office with one of the practices I'm a patient at, but not sure what I'm struggling with now qualifies.

If you only know one thing about me, it should be _____________________.

infections and inflammation can sure make you feel that way! I just got over a tooth infection that knocked me down to my knees. where there is infection inflammation seems to follow in us.
rest and rest some more. drink plenty of fluids, get some lipids in you. stay away from caffeine and sugar. eat vegetables and fruits in small quantities throughout the day with small amounts of protein like nuts and such.
take all the meds your doc prescribed you as he meant them to be taken.
gargle with low salt rinses.
soak in warm/not hot baths for short periods of time
the heat your feeling is hot flushes and it's your body trying to flush the infection/inflammation out of your body. it is going to increase your pain, but it will let up at some point.
i'm not a doctor!!!! this is only my experiences and what I did along with my meds and MY doctors advice. call your doctor Monday or if you feel you need to go get to the er. infections can be dangerous. watch your temperature carefully.
hope you get to feeling soon.
Hugs,
toni
Thank you very much for replying. I did go to the weekend clinic that my some of my doctors are affiliated with and they checked my vitals out and they came back looking pretty decent. I stopped four of my meds this week (with doctor's approval) and one was a blood pressure med I was taking with my beta blocker so I was glad I got checked out to make sure my blood pressure reading was within normal limits. When my temp was actually 98.2 even though I was so dang hot, I had begun to realize that it was all probably due to anxiety.
I had left messages with my psychiatrist a week ago Friday and then again at the beginning of the this week. My primary care doc told me on the 30th that he thought getting on something to help fight my fatigue and anxiety would be beneficial. Apparently, he was spot on. Boy, the anxiety has hardly ever gotten this bad and pervasive so I guess that's why I didn't attribute what's been going on to that. I do think there is an underlying infection and keeping it clean and wrapped should help that. It does appear a mix of the inflammation and anxiety is messing with me.
It was fascinating me that I felt as horrible as I do at 101 when I didn't even come up to 98.6. My psychiatrist hasn't responded to either of my messages and apparently she didn't reply to the voicemail my therapist left either. Normally Dr Spillar gets back to me fairly quickly. In the meantime, I'm just trying to self-soothe and self-regulate. I tried taking a cold shower, but that didn't help at all so I drove nearly an hour to spend the evening with my grandparents. Which says a lot cus I don't normally voluntarily go over there.
I hate that feeling of constantly fighting tears and then still having the discomfort of the pain and the flushing feeling. I am hoping that I will actually be able to get some good rest tonight. I haven't been able to focus at all on homework this weekend and falling behind hasn't helped with the anxiety. Thank you guys so much for your responses...it helps a lot having a support network.
Feel better soon!! Don't ever feel funny about whether what you're feeling is ok to go to an urgent care. If you ever have any doubt, just go...Better to go and they tell you, "Oh, you're going to have to get to an ED.
Hope you feel better tomorrow!
Hugs,
Boo
I am pretty sure after how I've been feeling for the past several days that it was actually helping with the anxiety. I have started to slowly build up to the dose I was on. I don't think the Neurontin was helping at all with the pain, and I don't like it causes me weight gain, so once my psychiatrist and I have figured out an anxiety med that helps me I plan on stopping the Neurontin.
I just think it was too soon for me to stop it...especially with no back up plan for the mood issues. I managed to sleep through the night last night and woke up feeling a bit better. I'm watching a Disney show I like, one that makes me laugh, and working on PreCal. I've set up a fan next to me to help control the hot flushing feelings that do keep happening. My temp went back up to 99.6 so it helped too to have some validation when I feel so overheated. Thanks again guys for being there for me. It helps so much to not feel alone.
Healing hugs
