I had spinal surgery Nov. 8, 2013 and after the surgery I was put on the muscle relaxer Soma, and it helps tremendously, as long as I take it about every 6 hours and I have explained this to the doctors on several occasions and when he writes the script he writes it as such, HOWEVER, when I call in a refill the nurse or whoever calls it in, calls it in for every 8 hours and there is no way. My back and the muscles let me know when it is time to take it, I have tried to stretch it out to every 7 hours and well it yells at me and I can't move the pain is so freaking bad. What does it take to get them to listen and understand? Do they honestly not care? I am in tears almost every day because of it and it takes my breath away. There are new symptoms with muscles in the mid back to where they literally feel and act as though they are crawling and just go numb. I am already to the point to where I am tired of fighting and battling the pain day in and day out to where it is more appealing each and every day to just rid myself of all of it, and they just don't seem to get that. What are we to do? How do we get them to understand? Do we just not worry about it and let it go and not take anything and get to the point where we can't move at all or breath because of the pain and we all know when the pain gets too bad our bodies will shut down, is that what we need to do and make a trip to the ER and hope they start to listen a little then? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Soma is one of the meds that is highly abused. The nurse is suppose to have your chart in front of her when she calls the meds in. The only thing I can think of is the nurse isn't paying attention to your chart. If I understand you correctly and the dr writes it for every 6 hrs but the nurse only says every 8. That gives you 3 a day instead of 4.

Yes, you are reading it correctly, and the dr has told me I am to walk as much as possible, HOWEVER, I can walk for a very short period when the muscles are not relaxed and then I pay a lot longer for the walking due to the pain. I have even called the dr's office and explained to them that I was trying to stretch it to every 7 and they said to not do that, they want me taking it every 6 hours and that 8 hours is too long to go.

I am to be taking the Soma along with the pain meds, and they don't seem to be worried about those, which are quite strong. The combination of those two have allowed me to actually be able to get up and move around and do the walking that I am suppose to be doing.

you need to report the nurses name to the doctor and tell him how she is changing his orders....then let him deal with her....

Well it doesn't sound like your Dr, isn't listening it sounds like a nurse issue.

The reason they're writing it for 8 hours is because the Max Daily Dosage of Soma is 3 times a day. They should have your chart out in front of them and be looking at your previous Script and go off of what the Dr. wrote.

What you might do is see your Dr. get an original paper Script and ask him to put refills on the Script, then the pharmacy will refill it automatically each month per what the original Script was written for. Sometimes you just have to look for ways to bypass dealing with the nurses.

kat is right. You can have refills on Soma because it isn't a Schedule II med. HAving your dr put the refills on the rx would eliminate the problem. Also this can be called in and refills done that way.

if you have the bottles from when you have them filled and they are diffrent bring them to him and show him..though the doc has copies and can see it plainly if they will look. if it is meesed up again call up there and say you wrote it wrong it is supose to be every six hours...sometimes you have to show them to their face oor they just dont get it.and call them on the issue and have it straightend out now because if you let it go a few times in a row they will keep it that way.

The PDR used to say that usual dosing is 3 times a day AND at bedtime, making it 4 times. I take it and even though my doc writes the Rx for 90 days with 3 refills, the pharmacy will only refill it once. After that I need a new script. Jumping through hoops again...

What I'm not understanding is why you didn't call the doctors office when they made the mistake the first time? If the doctor told you every 6 hours and the Rx was done as 8 hours you should have been on the phone right away to get it fixed. The office could have phone in another Rx for the difference or corrected it on the original.

After the first mistake I would have been checking the Rx each time I pick it up before I pay. Eventually the doctor's office will start paying more attention. This doesn't sounds like a problem with the doctor himself but with his staff but you are also allowing this to continue by not checking your Rx when you pick it up. Every Rx should be checked before paying.

I'm going to play devil's advocate. I'm not convinced the change is due to a nurse just calling in a change. Nurses call in what the doctor orders. I cannot imagine a nurse that would be willing to put her license on the line by doing that.

In my experience, doctors like to be the good guys to the patient and change orders, leaving the nurse to be the bad guy. I would call the office and let them know a mistake was made with the rx. Maybe it was nurse error. You won't know unless you call, right?

keesha, some rx can only be refilled for 6 months. A 90 day supply with one refill, is 6 months.

they do not listen it just like having pain doctor set my meds and then pc take them away that why i have permit to smoke weed or eat t it . im so tried of it now im in the process changing docs it will go wrong in some way ,
my blood pressure gose up at new doctor appointments , do they even read what other docs report not to my knowledge report her be cautious when doing so hugs minnie
