Are there people here who take this.. and can you help me with what to expect. He gave me 2 mg tablets, one every 4 hours.. it has been almost 20 minutes.. how long should I wait for it to kick in before I conclude that it isn't working and head to the ER to keep my promise???

Most medications take at least a half hour to kick in. I find with oxycodone it is almost an hour before I really start to feel relief. Hope you start to get some soon. Take care Kelley

Try and relax a bit, let the medicine work. Are you used to something stronger? (Is there something stronger?)

I know that my doc says it is one of the strongest meds around, so let it work. If it doesn't work after an hour or so, or your pain is too bad, then maybe you could let your doc know.

I was on that dosage and for me it took about 45 minutes before I got relief. The problem is, is that everyone's body metabolizes the same medications at different speeds. I would give it some time before you rush off to the er. But I would say if it hasn't worked within and hour and half continue with your promise and go to the er.

If you have no medical reason not to...and, of course, not constantly...drinking a cup of coffee with many meds quickens the relief time for me...

i know when you're in pain it's very hard to relax, but i do find that helps them bring relief. i'm a hypocrite b/c i can lay back in my chair and watch the clock.. some things you shouldn't take with citric juices, others with milk, so be careful about that. but 2 hours have now passed since you posted, so i hope you have relief.

i just happened to stumble on this bit of info, so check that brochure and see if there are any precautions like that.

Ivy I hope you've gotten some relief by now. I was taking 8mg dilaudid 3 x a day. It had a slow release for me so my dr. told me to drink alittle OJ to wake up my meds. Praying for you.

Thanks. Still sitting in an er bed . Doctor just got through giving his spiel about how he didn't see the point in cat scan or an X-ray because my past ones have been irregular. Told him pm wanted me to come for one but he said it seemed pointless for me. So he said he would do the X-ray and give me a course of Iv pain meds which they just gave to no avail. God I hate this
