I was on high doses of ibuprofen for a long time for joint pain, eventually gave me a stomach ulcer ( even with omeprazole )

ohh be carefull :) its so easy to take too much when your pain is high.I know how that is.I cant take ibuprofen anymore either due to it wearing away my stomach lining

So, Ibu works on some people as a potentate to Narcotics. People like me who take 2000mgs of Ibu a day everyday as part of a Pain Cocktail, no it doesn't do anything,

I'd be more concerned with the fact that you doubled your longacting Narcotic and then took a dose of Breakthru meds on top of that. Doing 60mg of Opana instead of 30 and adding 90mg of Morphine can have a disastrous effect on your Central Nervous System....like shut it down. There's a reason Narcotics doses are increased at a slow rate. I sincerely hope you don't do this again, it can be really dangerous.

When pain takes over, I know how scary it is. I've been on the same meds for almost 20 years, and it's only now, with my doctor lowering opioids and not prescribing benzodiazepines anymore, that I feel it again. Tonight, it's so bad that I've had SEVEN baths in 20 hours. The muscle spasms in my leg went to my foot, and my big toe is twitching. I've never gone over the prescribed amount, but it's difficult to know that I could. Tempting. But I'm much too frightened to try.

Do you keep track of your meds and what times you take them? I started out with notebooks, writing the time & the med down every time I take a pill, even Tylenol or Benadryl. My last pain doc required us to write pain levels and what we took, so I got in the habit. That way I know, despite my pain, how much I've taken. I switched to my phone years ago. Now I count out the maximum allowed daily and put them in a pill box in separate compartments. When I remove one, I type it immediately into the phone. I told my hubby when I met him that if anything ever happened to me- car accident, etc., that he should grab my med bottles and my cell phone, so any doc would know what I took and when. I feel better knowing I have safeguards in place.

Per usual, my last paragraph didn't make the post. But I said to hang in there and you're not an idiot. Chronic Pain makes people feel like they're dying sometimes. People here know how that is. Just be careful. We can't let it take us out.

OlderCper, I rarely double my long acting pain med much less add my regular dose of morphine on top, only in severe pain days when regular meds do not work. My PM does know I do it.
And I do keep track of what I take and when, I just didn't think about the ibro being a booster since I rarely take it! That was dumb on my part as far as tracking my meds Though, I have been on pretty much the same dose for 10 years, and I know that even OTC things can interact!
One thing I should mention, I have been very ill with a intestinal problem,( very rare, very complicated) that I have lost a lot of weight, I am down to 98 pounds, ( I am 5'8 and used to weigh 135). So that is something I need to take into account with my meds as well. The last time I took that much pain medication was probably 2 years ago.
Normally if I have a really bad pain day I will take one extra morphine OR just an extra opana and not take the morphine at all, much less all together plus the ibro to boot. So please know this is a very rare occurrence!!!

If inflammation is part of what is causing the pain, ibuprofen can be helpful. But, if it doesn't usuall affect you the way it did today, it is doubtful it is the ibuprofen making you feel that way. If you don't have the food in your stomach that you usually do when you take the ibuprofen, that could also explain the side effects. The weight loss may or may not have impacted on how doubling up on the narcotics affected you. Please Be Careful. Just because nothing happend to you this time with the amount of opiates you took, does not mean nothing will happen to you the next time.

THere is nothing "dumb" about this at all. You are human. Mistakes are HUMAN! Pain destroys the abilitiy to think clearly on top of everything else that it does to the human body.
