Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Awesome advice and I highly recommend everyone give this a good honest attempt. I've been doing this on and off for decades and it truly helps and it really aids us in accepting our conditions. It's a form of self Love since you're honouring yourself since your making some time for YOU!
With breathing I'll add...the greatest teacher to learn how to properly breath is a baby. They breath with their belly.
This takes practise and you'll get better and better. The hard part is starting especially if you're really hurting. So you just may be able to focus at first, on your breathing. Next is to calm the mind, but that's already is beginning since the focused breathing with naturally aid in this process.
If you have a mind like mine, always in high gear,It usually won't settle down without protest. Worrying about this and that, worrying that I don't have time to lay here and do this...this is retarded lol...on and on the mind runs. My trick is to simply see myself as the adult and my panicking mind, the child. The parent simply just doesn't react to the child, allows them to have their vent, then they normally settle. For me, the protesting mind settles down in a day or two if I haven't been doing this for awhile. Starting out it may take a little longer, but do your best not to fight or react to the mind, and that takes practise.
I see it this way also, most of us have a lot of time on our hands, so we have nothing to lose by giving this a good honest attempt. You'll be doing it for You and you'll probably thank yourself some day, I have...
DaryaLi, thanks for sharing! :)

really pain is very distressing feeling. but Thank You for sharing this as it will help a lot of people in managing their pain.
I would just add to the advice above ...if you need help getting started (it only takes 5min a day to start) there's a couple guided meditation apps you can download to your phone. Having a voice guide me thru the breathing and body scans when I first started practicing kept me focused and motivated to keep practicing.
If your mind is jumping around & having a hard time focusing that's normal. Acknowledge the thought & watch it pass by like a cloud in the sky or water down a stream. When you realize you're getting distracted just focus on your breath again. They don't take away points for not staying focused. That's why it's a practice. :-)
The most useful skill I'm learning is how to be non-reactionary. Whether it be from physical pain, emotions, negative thoughts or just LIFE in general. I've always been a reactionary and affected deeply by stress and even other people's emotions in some cases. I'm like a sponge that just soaks up the energy around me and that's not always a good thing. Dealing with Me, Myself and I is more than enough without the weight of the world added on.
Give yourself 30days of daily practice before you decide. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how much better you feel mentally and probably physically too. It's basically cognitive behavior modification therapy but you're in charge of the controls & you never have to leave your house or pay a co-pay.
While there is no proven "secret to happiness" some scholars believe being mindful in the present moment is as close it gets. Than Nicht Han and Eckhart Tolle are just two authors that have written extensively on the subject.
Take care,
