What did the docs say and what were the options for treatment?

do you take pain medications to help that pain and do they work or not?

The doctor I trusted the most says I have neuropathy and complex regional pain syndrome. They say it was made worse by the surgery. I have also had 2 doctors simply say the surgery was botched and it damaged my nerves. As for medication I take 300 mg of neurontin 3 times a day but it has hardly any affect. I am also on 50 mcg fentanyl patch every 72 hrs and 1 hydrocodine 2 x a day. I think my body has gotten to where the pain medications have barely any affect. I think I'm just out of options. Thank you for your replies and your interest. It means a lot. People without chronic pain just don't seem to understand.

These are two very different answers from the doctors.
If you have done all the tests, etc and no one can really see anything besides guessing - there is one more option.
I kind of have the same problem going on with my jaw. I had a crushed jaw, open fracture, multiple fragments. Had surgery and the guy did a shit job. Then the wound inside opened, he did another surgery. I developed osteomyelitis, he missed it. I had to seek help elsewhere and had 3 more surgeries to remove most of of the bone, 5 teeth, both plates and about 17 screws. I also ended up breaking my jaw again while I was eating one day.
This left me with some really bad consequences.
During my last surgery in 2013 they removed floating bone fragment and also decompressed my nerve. While it did not produce complete relief, I really helped.
If you had a lot of surgeries and inflammation, it is possible that you have a lot of scar tissue around the nerve and this is why the meds are not working.
There may be an option for micro neurosurgery. The doctors can actually go in with a microscope, look around and see what the problem is. This is done in large cities. My Ortho was going to refer me to NYC if my leg trauma did not improve to treat this very problem in my lower leg.

One of the many doctors did mention that he believed the main nerve was "entrapped" in scar tissue. He did say however, it was a very difficult surgery to release the nerve and therefore he wouldn't do anything.

It is difficult for the surgeon, not so much for the patient, unless you are intubated for 3 hours.
In your case, I would imagine they can do a block with sedation. They only gave me an option of intubation because it is in my face.

They want to put a spinal cord simulator in my back which scares the hell out of me. I don't like the idea of 2 probes so close to my spinal cord. There are some scary complications with it.

I am Not a fan of it either. They also have to remove a rib when they put it in.

Unfortunately narcotics don't have much affect on Nerve pain of most/any times. If your pain is all in your foot from nerve pain and what you call a 'botched surgery' then the Fentanyl and vicoden probably aren't doing much to make it go away.

Has your Dr. ever suggested using one of the off-label meds that are now used for nerve pain, such as Cymbalta, Neurontin, Lyrica, etc.? One of these meds might give you far more control over the pain.

As far as the surgery goes, can one of the surgeons who claim it was botched job go in and fix whatever was messed up, or is that not an option for you?

Have you seen a neurologist or a neurosurgeon? If the nerve is encased in scar tissue these are the ones that would be the best at helping you and or doing the surgery. Neurontin did nothing for my neuropathy except add weight on to me which I seriously did not need.
