Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Hello everyone! I just found this group and am hoping to find some support from those who know what I am going through. For just over a year now, I have been experiencing constant body pain. It started with pain in the back of my head (not migraine or tension headache). Woke up with it one day a year ago and it has never went away. It is always there but the degree of pain varies from about a 2 to an 8. Then about 6 months ago, woke up one moring with joint pain and stiffness in the fingers of both my hands, and again, it's always present but to varying degrees of discomfot or pain (always worse in the morning and then again in the late evening). Then, about two months ago, pain in my elbows, wrists, ankles, toes and knees, both joint and muscle and sometimes what I swear is bone pain somehow. Also get craming in both my calves. This is affecting my normal daily routine and activities. I can barely use my right arm and hand anymore wthout intene pain. Once a new pain starts, it doesn't go away - almst like my body doesn't know how to repair itself anymore.
MRI was clear. Tests for Lupus and RA - clear, no signs of inflammation (RF <10, ANA <1:40, ESR 7.0). Thyroid TSH 1.1. I am borderline low on vitamins D (34) and B-12 (394) which has left me slighty anemic, but I get a lot of those two things in my diet so not sure why, and they don't seem THAT low to cause this much pain. I have been on suppliments for a couple weeks now with no improvement. I have female hormone testing next week. Here are other symptoms that have come along over the last year:
sleep problems from body pains, pressure points hurt terribly when pressed against the bed or each other
cracking, peeling, dry finger and toe nails
waves of dry mouth and eyes
waves of mouth and/or nasal sores (not Herpes)
weight gain and struggle to lose weight
occassional fecal incontinance
spuradic tingling/pins & needles in arms, legs, palms, bottom of feet (but not numbness)
intolerance to extreme heat or cold
forgetting my words, slight memory and cognitive issues
high cholesterol (no other heart risks)
So far my lab tests have not revealed anything tangible. I feel like doctors stop trying to find the cause if lab results are within range. My pain is getting worse and I am starting to feel helpless and hopeless. I am only 44 years old, which isn't THAT old, and I am struggling to imagine a future if this pain doens't get resolved. Has anyone else been through so much and never found an answer? Any issues discovered even AFTER normal labs? I just feel so defeated right now.

A tree outside where I live is dying, seemingly from dog urine----with the bully in my building going out his way to not only have his dog urinate there but to have the dog urinate on the fence and sign I bought to try save the tree----and then slide the sign under my apt door.Turns out that was a TRIGGER for me----bullying and humialtion right out of high school. I didn't realize it at the...

I am suffering from the inability to cope with ordinary every day things. From my housework to watching tv or reading a book. I get palpatations, nervousness, at the moment my heart is palpatating and all I am doing is typing this. I am so scared its silly, I just want to stay in bed and just get up for meals and coffee. Not that that is going to happen. At the moment I have my daughter...
Anyway, again, I don't know if any of that is relevant for you. Regardless, keep on the doctors to keep testing. Some things like RA can get a lot of false negatives before you get that positive result. Also, make sure they check for things like food allergies and celiac, Chrohn's, etc. Sometimes those things can cause pain and vitamin deficiencies which can cause other symptoms. In the meantime, try to find way to manage your pain and make your life a little more bearable. Light, regular exercise is so important, make sure you eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water. Try to manage your stress levels, let go of any obligations that are unnecessary and/or things that you don't love. Learning to pace yourself and not push yourself too hard or too little is so important. And don't forget social support, turn to your friends and family. Be aware that chronic pain often leads to depression (who wouldn't get depressed with that much pain!) which can contribute to pain, and can turn into a vicious cycle, so make sure you take of yourself emotionally as well as physically. Try to find hobbies that you love that you can do with your pain levels and creative outlets for your emotions. Take care of yourself. I really hope you get some answers soon. I know how crazy-making it is not knowing what's happening with your own body. *hugs*
Hypothyroidism:
Fatigue
Increased sensitivity to cold
Constipation
Dry skin
Weight gain
Puffy face
Hoarseness
Muscle weakness
Elevated blood cholesterol level
Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods
Thinning hair
Slowed heart rate
Depression
Impaired memory
Hypothyroidism covers most of the things you listed. I don't know if your on any meds or if this is something you've had checked or not. It requires a simple blood test and is generally controlled by medication. I take Synthroid for mine.
If your Dr. has ruled this out, the things get a bit trickier.
Sjogrens Syndrome:
Dry eyes, Dry mouth, Fatigue, Joint Pain,
Nose Sores can be caused or be the Symptom of literally a zillion things.
Dry eyes generally are narrowing of tear ducts, (which can happen with age) or blocked tear ducts.
Joint pain can be anything from various types of Arthritis, Lupus, Lime, Fibro, etc. many, many, many different things, some very serious, some just needing a pill or supplement to control the inflammation and soreness.
I'm not sure how old you are, but body temp regulation, cholesterol, weight regulation, joint pain, sleep issues all can also be symptoms of pre-menopause and menopause, which would be taken care of with hormones, etc.
The Fecal Incontinence can be from a damaged nerve, your anal sphincter being too relaxed, IBS or other Gastric issues, and also age. Fecal Incontinence in itself is a disorder.
So, i'm not sure if any of that helps you, but if it were me, my next step would be to get my Thyroid checked and go that route, because that was the biggest symptom pool that most of the symptoms fit in. This would be just a blood test at your GP's office.
Take care and hope you find some answers soon.
