boyfriend vents and toredol/ketorolac ??

hi all hope you are having pain free days. i have vents and questions. 1st the vent. my boyfriend of 7 years and i broke up last sunday. things have not been going well for some time and he does not treat me the way i need and want to be treated. he is emotionally abusive yet i stayed. i finally figured out why: the one thing i could ALWAYS count on him for is my pain. he has known me since before my car wreck and the major pain and has been by my side through the surgeries and has been so supportive. other than that he treats me like crap in a way that i wont allow friends to treat me. yet the thought of him not being there for the next round of drs. scares me. he is the type that its all or nothing. if i stay broken up then he will not stay with me through the drs. i dont know what to do. next my lower back learned a new trick. i woke up sunday morning and realized 2 spots on my sacral-illium joints had collapsed. i have 2 indentations you could set golf balls and they wouldny move. i went to a new dr.( mine is on vacation) and he said it was sacra- illium joint dysfunction. severe inflammation.( he examined me but no exrays or anything) his nurse gave me a shot of toradol and i am supposed to take it 4 times a day dor 5 days.i know nothing about this drug. the nurse said she gets shots about once a month for headaches and it has helped with those. but the ppharmasist said they cant be used for long term because it is really hard on the kidneys. yet the flyer that came with it talks about using it "as needed" long term. I AM SO CONFUSED!!!. can anyone tell me more about it? thanks for any and all comments, advice and support.

In terms of advice, I'm not much help except for the website at the bottom of this post.. In terms of support, I'm behind you 100%. I know that I don't know you, but I'm so glad that you got out of an abusive relationship before it escalated to something even worse. You absolutely deserve better than what he was doing to you. Anyone who treats you so badly does not deserve your company, your time, or your love.

Yeay for you!!!! Getting out of that mentally abusive relationship is the best thing that you could have done! So Bravo to you!!!!!
Now Toradol, your Pharmacist is correct! Toradol is one of the medications that can be so hard on your kidney's that most Doc's will not prescribe it. My PCP game a shot of Toradol after my Discogram because I was in awful pain the day after, but he told me that he will not prescribe it, or give more than a shot once a month due to the ability of this drug to destroy the liver. So, if I was you, I will ask this Doc or your Doc to give you something else.....

Hello! My name is Carrie and I see here that you have received some excellent advice from cmarie & tipper!

I am also so glad that you got out of that abusive relationship. Your boyfriend was "mentally abusing" you and nobody ever deserves that. I know that you are frightened to continue on this pain journey by yourself, however, just know that you have a whole community of people who are here for you anytime you need it!

As for the medicine, toradol, I know nothing about it, however, you mentioned that you had to see another doctor while yours is on vacation. It only makes sense that the "new" doctor would have only given you something short term. It may not be intended for you to use long term but at least it was something to get you by until your own doctor returns. When he/she does, then you can discuss your ongoing medical plan.

thank you all so much. i have had to laugh because all of a sudden he is calling "to see if he could come over and work on my sidewalk" he started it 5 years ago and never finished. i agreed and asked why. he was bored. he waited on me hand and foot, worked outside as well as stuff i needed inside, andwhen i asked what he was up to he just said he bored!! i know he is just trying to get back in my good graces but im done. i'll accept any work he wants to do but i let him know it doesnt change anything.

the toradol really does seem to be working. especially on the headaches. i definatly know when its time for the next pill though so although it helps the paun it doesnt seem to be "curing " inflammation. maybe its just too soon, this is only day 2. but i'll take whatever relief i can get!!

oopsy, Honey all of us here want you to be happy ! Before I read your most recent post about him helping I was thinking you had already done the right thing and answered your questions. (no about the meds) the boyfriend. I assume you and he have been living together for some while. Could it just be convenient for him to "come back home" so to speak. Where has he been staying since Sunday ? And it has only been 5 days ! People don't change they just become MORE of what they already are as they age. Good Luck, Deb

Toradol is ketorolac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It can be hard on your kidneys & cause water retention (as all NSAIDs do to varying degrees) but what its really notorious for is that, out of all the NSAIDs available, it is the hardest on your stomach. You can get stomach upset even if you are getting by injection but it will be worse if taken orally so make sure you take it with food and don't hesitate to take an antacid or something like Pepcid if you develop any indigestion or heartburn (they won't affect Toradol's absorption). If you take it regularly you are more likely to develop an ulcer than if you just take it occasionally.

However it IS a very powerful anti-inflammatory. It sounds like your doctor wanted to hit the inflammation hard and fast - but maybe he will switch you to a lighter NSAID once this acute problem is over.

hey deb. he hasnt lived with me since december. we had a fight before christmas and he was pushing every button he could, calling me a whining bitch, and every name he could think of. i, um, kinda tried to knee him. i didnt connect but the next thing i know i was being thrown around like a rag doll. this is the only time he had ever gotten violent but when i screamed for help out the front door HE called the police on ME and tried to have me arrested. luckily since i had the bruises, the police simply got him out of the house. since then we have worked on things but i could never forget what happened so after another verbal tiff i realized i just couldnt forgive him, and he was still treating me like crap. no matter how much work he does, or how mantimes he claims to change i am done. been ther done that with my ex- husband. im just mad at myself for letting it go on this long.
