I haven't had THAT particular unit, but I have had the SCS. Do you want to hear from anyone who had the SCS or only the Boson unit?

I'm a little nervous about it

The trial and the implant are a SNAP. No problem at all. My trial was a week long. They put the leads in, and the "generator" was outside, so I just put it in my pocket. LOL I had the hand-held thing to turn it up or down. The doc gave me so many restrictions, i.e. no bending, lifting, twisting, etc., plus a whole lot more, that i didn't get a true assessment of pain relief. About all they let me do is sit around!! Naturally, you're not gonna be in a whole lot of pain. So I figured the thing was working GREAT. So I said go ahead with the implant.

They implanted it ~ with both the trial and the implant, I was in lala land, and didn't feel or know a thing. When I woke up, I just was a little bit sore, but no big deal. When I got home, it was still no big deal, and I just put ice on the area. I didn't really need any high power drugs. So after I rested, I got up and started about my normal routing, and WOW ~ the pain hit me like a steam roller! Good grief, I was pissed. (pardon) So I turned the thing up, and all that did was irritate the sciatic nerve, and that made MORE pain. So i had to call the pain doc. He said to come in. We must have reprogrammed that thing twenty times. Then the generator tried to work itself OUT of me ~ I didn't have enough fat content in my body to hold it in. That was it. It had to come out. And that's painful cause by that time scar tissue had formed around the leads and the generator. 12 years later now, I have a very sensitive area in the mid back, and also where the generator was. So that was my experience with the SCS.

All I can tell you is to BE SURE you are very ACTIVE during your trial period so you can get a true assessment of pain relief! You don't want to end up like I did. LOL. Sorry this was so long. I tend to flap my jaws a bit too much. If you have any questions, let me know. hugs, lee

I had the Eon mini implant from St. Jude. Just as Leeall indicated, there were several restrictions of movement. However, I was desperate for relief so I said "let's go." I so wanted it to work, and it did in the beginning, but then it became painful. The generator was in my "right behind" but a portion of it was ALWAYS sticking out. It didn't protrude through the skin but you could feel and see the outline through the skin. I began having an allergy (lots of sores on both arms.) I REALLY wanted it to work because I am so tired of taking meds. However, last Monday (Jul. 26) I had it removed. The "pain in my butt" was gone immediately. I'm still recovering in the mid-back.

I had the Boston Scientific/Precision model installed in June of 08, and it worked wonders on my nerve pain, but it did nothing for my mechanical pain. My trial SCS was done in the Doctor's office, and I had the devicice on for 5 days, then it took me about 6 weeks to get the permanent one installed because BCBS of Florida, dragged their feet!
I am absolutley happy with the device and with the service that I get from Boston Scientific. I hope that your trials goes as good as mine. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I'm going through worker's comp so I am probably weeks away. I'm going for another nerve ablation first. That is when the SCS process will be discussed with my pain management doctor. I use a neuromuscular stimulator/TENS unit daily.

I also used a TENS unit before I had my SCS installed, but I never, ever had the nerve ablations, my best friend told me that they were a waste of time and money, so I stayed away from them.
