anyone else get letter from health ins?

I recieved a letter from my helath ins concerning my oxycodone, they are only allowing 8 per day, it says that for my safety! and if my doctor wants to write a letter explaining why I need more, I can do that , but they will not cover it! So now my helath ins is controlling my meds??? So, I emailed my pain doc and had her change the mg to a higher mg, so I dont exceed the 8 per day! It just makes me mad.

See this is one of the percs of not having health insurance, and Oxy is not that expensive!

My insurance company will only pay for 9 imitrex pills per month this is NOT a narcotic its a triptan drug used to help migraines. SO YES basically the insurance company controls my meds. U can take 2 per migraine in 24 hours. So WTF if I get more than 4.5 migraines a month???? Sooooo frustrating! I have battled this for years and have to pay cash for anything over 9 pills :(

My mother is going through this. I haven't had to yet. I hope I don't have to but how can tell in the future.

This subject infuriates me! Insurance has no business telling the dr.'s how to do their job! I better just stop there I could write a book on this subject . It's just wrong!VERY wrong! And what worse is they are getting away with it!!!!

Last year we switched insurance and I was on 2 different meds for my BT and because they are very expensive, the insurance company took me off the one and raised the dose of the other and said they would only approve this. My doc was livid. He was like they should not be making these kind of decisions and I agree.

Hopefully if you are taking more than the 8 the insurance is paying for, you can cover the difference. Oxy is not that expensive.

But this was stuff I knew was coming from reading the new programs the DEA is integrating etc.

This is so outrageous! My pm doc wrote for 100 OxyContins/month so I would have 10 extra to get me through the really bad episodes. Could they fill it? Nope- got my usual 90. So my doc switched me to Opana, at a strength 2x that of the Oxy I was taking. It works better, and no need for extra ones.

I don't think there is anything we can do to change this rule. Insurance companies pay for the better part of our meds, so they feel they can dictate just how much will be prescribed. Which is the doctors job, not the insurance company.

Plus remember they don't have to pay for "extra" meds and this way they save money.

I get 105 hydrocodones a month. I haven't gotten any letter yet but I know it's coming. health insurers have no business controlling what our docs say our treatment or meds should be. My doc writes for extras in case I need and most months I do but I'm at the top level of mg hydro is so aside from switching my meds there's not much else I can do.
