Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

For 18 days I have carried a 7.5mm kidney stone in my right ureter. Because of the holidays and the fact that our area only gets the lithotripsy machine once a month, I've had a rough few weeks. Even my CP doc yesterday was shocked they could let this go on so long.
So I got the litho set for Weds, though I have to go to a neighboring town to catch up with the litho machine. And today, I started getting worse. What are the odds?
I asked my PA about what I should do for the extra pain, a question she's never dealt with before with me. She asked the doctor and he suggested changing me from morphine to oxycodone, but like an angel, the surgery coordinator called as we were discussing it. Since she said I am IN Wednesday, I told them I don't need to worry about switching. Honestly, after 17 years of proper pain management on morphine, I did not WANT to change so I could take a higher dose.
But as I was checking out I bumped into him and he said, "You might need to take an extra pill after this surgery- that's okay." I've never done that so I KNOW I'd just worry. I'm hoping the Torradol works after the surgery like last time.
I get a KUB in the am, and am praying all is well. They have not checked this stuck stone since the 20th of December. I've felt like I have a 2nd stone in my left side, but figured if so, they'll see it. I hope it's just some odd pain thing- like when you feel pain on the opposite side. That happened to me with the RSD years ago.
I AM worried about going in to a NEW doctor and a NEW anesthesiologist in a NEW hospital, but I know I can't wait another week to have it done. So tomorrow, please pray that the KUB is okay and they can get it with the lithotripsy. The other options scare me to death.
I'm sure I sound like a baby, but this stone has taken up my life 24/7 for weeks. I can barely eat, I never know how I'm going to feel, and it pretty much ruined our Xmas plans. I'm terrified to the point of insomnia about the IV and the surgery, but more worried about what happens if they can NOT get this stone with litho. It's too high for them to go in and get it the other way, and the 3rd possibility is way too invasive.
In March I had 2 huge stones in my right kidney blasted with litho, and it took me 3 weeks before I felt right again. To add insult to injury, after no snow for an entire month, we're finally getting it. Lovely if it were Christmas, but all the cold does is flare my RSD. I'm quite scared about someone bumping my foot during the surgery b/c that is ALL it would take.
I know this is good news (as long as the x-ray tomorrow doesn't show complications) and I also know I am SO over this. No one should have to live this long with such a large stone stuck in their ureter. It's colicky tonight but I just have to get through to Weds mid-day.
Please say a prayer for me if you have a spare- both for the stone being blasted to smithereens and no further problems with my RSD. My poor 5 year old son has been dealing with sick mommy for too long. Hopefully this surgery won't take as long to recuperate from!

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

As terrified as I am of needles and doctors, I admit that IF this surgery were taking place at MY hospital with MY doc, I would FINALLY take them up on their offer for hospitalization for pain control! I've had enough. But it's NOT my doctor or my hospital and three's not much I can do. If I complain too much and the KUB X-ray is okay, I could lose the litho spot.
So I'm LITERALLY, caught between a STONE and a hard place!
.. I hope all this goes as smoothly as possible for you.
You sure have a huge struggle going on with all these damned stones..
AND RSD. NOT FAIR.
Maybe you could let them know your fear of your foot being bumped? They have tent like structure that they use over amputations/burns... sometimes. Maybe they could put one over your foot? Just a thought.
Will be thinking of you.

I KNOW in my head that I shouldn't be so scared, but my gut has always reacted to stuff like this. I'm shaky and teary and scared to death. To make me feel better I decided to watch one of my favorite shows, "The Little Couple" on TLC. Well, tonight's episode has the Dad going in for spinal surgery! I'm squirming and fast-forwarding.
I keep wondering WHY I have such terrors with medical issues. It began with a needle phobia, then became fear of doctors, ANY procedures, and of course, blood. I can't HEAR about specific situations or see them. I truly get ridiculously sick. I'm over 40 and have given birth, lived 17 years with RSD, and have back and shoulder issues. But I still get sick to just TALK about a procedure!
And thank-you- I will certainly ask for a tent or a sign (like last time) about my foot. Last time I tied a ribbon on my left leg, several inches above the foot. They also wrote a sign on my IV for people to stay away from my left foot.
I'm scared of the new doctor, new hospital, new anesthesiologist - but praying it goes well. Oddly, my cousin and best friend, had HER surgery today in another state. She had a hysterectomy and was much stronger than I am. But she pushed and pushed for this surgery. I'm only doing THIS one b/c there's no way out. But I feel so silly being this scared. Yet- I AM ridiculously scared.
I'm going to lay down a bit, see if my body will let me sleep. I did rest all afternoon and evening, and got up at 11pm to eat a small snack. No food after midnight even though my surgery isn't until 11am! I wasn't hungry so THAT wasn't a great idea but I don't want to be hungry later. Then again, I can't remember the last time I WAS hungry! Ive had this stone stuck (to my knowledge) since the 20th of December. It's been a whirlwind of activity, rest, and pain.
So now I get ready. We need to drive 40 minutes away to get the surgery, but I'm not going to complain. At least I got the opening. Thank God there was a cancellation! Now I just need to look inside, find some strength, and know that the next few days will suck, but it has to suck in order for the stone to get smashed and pass. (It sounds like my stone is getting drunk, LOL!)
Thanks again, everyone. After the last surgery I came home and fell asleep for a long time. But I'll LYK how it went as soon as I'm awake enough to type. :)
Bless you all!
Jen :)
Everyone has their fears.
( Mine's an extreme insect phobia. EXTREME.
..can't account for why at all. Just is.
Fear of medical procedures.. especially surgery..
At least makes some sense.
I hope it's a great success..
And the sun goes down today on a you
Well on her way to being
Without that damned stone.
Will be thinking of you.
Hugs

"Nobody should have to suffer"!

We leave here about 9am to get to the hospital in time. I'm supposed to be there at 9:45am for an 11 something appt. We've never been there before so that leaves me a bit more nervous.
I'll LYK if I make it! ;)
