Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Then one day he decided to Google my condition. This meant so much to me because it showed that he wanted to understand. He read articles by professionals as well as other patients stories. It was the most gratifying feeling to see the understanding paint his face. He ended up reading for 7 hours (till 4am). He saw other people saying the exact same things that I say. He saw people talking about school difficulties, what meds didn't work, and how emotionally draining this situation is. He saw people talking about all the adjustments they've had to make and all the things they miss from their lives before pain. He learned what a positive outlook I have despite my situation.
After he read sooo much about my condition, he changed his tune and was much more understanding and helpful. I explained CALMLY to him that it was not my fault. I did a sport for many years and this is the end result. I didn't get this way by doing anything negative and it is NOT a mental defect. He realized I'm not just doing this for drugs; he learned that the pain is real. He began doing more things to help me without me having to ask and even started asking if I needed help, or asking if I needed anything when I was laying down in pain. I was amazed to see the changes he made after he had a better understanding that I'm not the only one going through this. He saw how other people were handling it, and realized how strong I'm trying to be.
Sadly, this wasn't the only problem in our relationship, so we broke up. BUT, it is a great way to help someone understand what we go through. If your husband is willing, I'd recommend this to try to help his understanding. Who knows what it could do!!! I was so surprised at what it did for my relationship, things I thought were never possible!!!
I hope things get better soon. I'm here for you if you need me...
Much love and understanding,
Lisa
