Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

I don't know what to think. I'm exhausted beyond explanation, sore as Hell where they did the kidney litho, and just can't get back into the groove.
I passed my last fragment (it was actually a bunch of small stones which explains the pain) yesterday. No more bloody urine, but I have that dull aching pain in my kidney area & lower back.
The worst is feeling so damned tired! I can't stay awake long at all. I had the kidney litho on THURSDAY! I was told 5 days of recovery but that's tomorrow. Will I suddenly feel better?
I called & spoke to the nurse and got some insight into WHY my side hurts so bad, but now that I know what they do to zap those suckers I'm scared to ever do it again. I recall they tying by arms behind my back before I blacked out from the meds, and wondered why they did that. For a second I thought I'd wandered into 50 Shades of lithotripsy!
Nurse explained how my side and back were "banged up" from positioning ultrasound and from the rough treatment to my kidney. None of it makes sense, though, as to WHY I am still so tired. I had to get my son ready for school and that took about an hour, then I collapsed into bed and slept from noon till 9pm! If I sleep on my right side, I wake countless times from pain. If I sleep on my left side too long, I wake wanting to roll over. I cannot win.
I didn't understand that this would take so much out of me. I'm not a whiner and I don't usually complain. I've had RSD 17 years and am good about adapting. But adapting to pain that is controlled is one thing. Adapting to feeling like I'm underwater is another. It can't be the anesthesia this late in the game, can it? I'm just so tired! My back hurts from so much bed time and my eyes are heavy.
I'm told to give it a few more days. I really need to go Easter shopping but this is crazy. And while toradol helps the pain of stones, it does nothing for the general pain in my side. I'm actually taking my meds as often as allowed which is not usual for me in Spring. I'm not used to watching the clock, waiting for the next dose. I'm not used to all this sleeping or being tired or grumpiness, either.
Has anyone else been affected by anesthesia like this? Or is it possible it's just my body's way of healing? They DID blast 2 stones in my right kidney as opposed to the one, but does that mean a longer recuperation? I just feel weird that the doctor I love so much didn't warn me it could last this long. Now I'm having pain in my upper back, too- like right after the procedure.
Good grief- even I'm sick of me!

Surgery is hard on anyone. You have medical issues to start with so your body works overtime to start with fighting that pain, then add a very stressful surgery onto it, it would seem natural that your body is fighting to heal itself. You need more than a week to heal, rest and recoup. Everyone is different.
Listen to your body, no one knows your body better than yourself. You were very stressed out before the surgery, so your body was very tired going into surgery. You are out of surgery so your body is saying "Awesome, I made it I can relax, but hey, this hurts like crap, I can't sleep right, ...." Find positions during the day while your beautiful child is at school that you can get catnaps in. Maybe a recliner with pillows to put pressure in the right places.
Take the pain meds as they are prescribed or your body will not heal as fast as needed. After the first 6 weeks you can start cutting back, but remember you only have one body and you need to let it heal.
I am not saying sleep 24/7 but rest the body. That also means keep the stress low. Maybe do what helps distract you. A hobby, a TV show, peaceful music with a book, anything to take your mind off of the pain.
I am so sorry this is happening, I know you are such a go getter and hate to have our wings clipped for even a short time. You will get your energy back, and the pain will lower, just pamper yourself.
(BTW- I was more stubborn that you when I was younger. LOL)

Think of watching 2-3 movies in a row you feel like a zombie afterwards don't you? That's because you haven't been moving around to refuel those energy levels.
You also need to flush the built up from the anesthesia out of your system, another reason to get up and move.
Take mini walks in your home and sit up as much as possible.
I so hope you get to feeling better soon!
Toni
thanks and wishing you well....prayers up for some comfort!
Some people have issues with anesthesia that might be causing you to be so tired.are you on a different med that might be adding to it. But like was said you have had abuse to your body give it time not all heal the same, but also get walking:-)
