Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Please don't lie. Someday it will trip you up and then you will be cut off. If the nerve blocks are working for a while has your doctor talked about a pain pump or RFA? There are many things to try, the key is to find the thing that works for you and when it stops working to find the next thing that works for you.
Don't give up and don't give in. Also unless the assistant is a PA or nurse practitioner they have no business telling you this. I would talk to the doctor about this next time and tell him how she made you feel. The doctor doesn't know what his staff is doing unless patients tell him.
My doctor put me on a long acting pain med with break through meds to use through out the day as needed. There are many options to explore. You and your doctor need to discuss the options.
After you come up with a plan I would want something on paper showing that plan to take with me if I had to go to ER so I don't look like a person seeking drugs.
I am also frustrated at the druggies causing so many issues for people who need pain meds.
Wishing you well.-RJ
It sounds like, by the way you describe your pain meds that your on short term pain meds, ones that are RX'd every 4-6 hours and give you the highs and valleys of pain control. If you've been on these kinds of pain meds for 10 years and there is not a surgical cure for your pain, then it sounds like it's time to talk to your DR.,not a DR.'s ASST., about a Long Term pain med that is dosed every 12 hours, thus keeping your Blood Plasma at a current level of pain control without all the highs and valleys of short term pain meds.
Any time you see your PM Dr. you should request to see your actual PM DR. not an Asst. or Nurse Practitioner.
