I find it funny that friendship and philosophy are likely two of biggest themes in the entire series. And ART? Really the bboks write like he eas writng and paintingt them all at once. I guess depending on the contex
no minsanthropic, trogledyte. They are needed and they are different people at different times. Often when people get older and you have a group of frends
His Narnia series, is a writing full of Christian symbolism and yes, friendship and philosophy are 2 of his main ideals. This quote just shows how far he came as a Christian. He is basically saying that you do not need friends to survive, but they sure do add value to what you have. And if you are willing to open your heart in a Christian manner, that value is even greater to your survival. Kind begets kindness. Love begets love. And so on.
Lewis was a great philosopher and to post such a wonderful quote is great! To me it shows how far he has come as a human being. How far he has come from believing in nothing to believing in a true God. I believe Lewis was just trying to say with this quote that without friends, there really is no point in survival. Who wants to be left stranded alone in this great world where there are so many evils and temptations.
It is believed that in the Narnia novels, that Aslan is the portrayal of God. He is there when you need Him, even though you may not always see Him. And to truly believe, you must have the faith of a child.

I love the quote too, and just like him....it's intelligent the way her wrote it.....but the meaning is clear, in English (lol) it means : Friendship is the key to our survival.
We can not survive without human interaction and someone to share with is critical, aka friendship: someone we can share with, who understands, who is there for us in time of need, who will listen, love us, help us to be happy, comfort us in time of need....friendship is a BIG job and commitment but not a chore....cause it's done in love.
Love you Cherry....great quote!
as a big fan of CS, he was a very thoughtful person who spoke with great care of his words.
