Chronic myelogenous leukemia affecst the balance of blood cells in the body, disrupting the normal balance. The cancer cells eventually begin to outnumber and push out the good cells, and could lead to anemia and easier bleeding/bruising. I was on Sprycel and doing well for two weeks, then I started having a lot of fluid retention (15 lbs worth) and my Doc suggested stopping Sprycel for a week. After a week without Sprycel all my blood counts were down, many below the normal range. The Doc is now suggesting another week without Sprycel to see if I continue to lose the fluid and to see if my counts come back into the normal range. He's considering having me switch to Gleevac or staying on 100mg of Sprycel, but going to every other day. Has anybody had a similar experience with Sprycel???

I have been on sprycel for almost 4 months now. After the second week I was hospitalized for congestive heart failure and pneamonia because of the fluid build up. Since then I have also taken lasix and that has helped a lot. But the sprycel has continued. All of my counts are down as well but am not PCRU. Until your pcr test is clean I would not believe that your oncologist would stop the sprycel.

Some doctors do practice "drug holidays", stopping the TKI until their counts get a bit better then restarting the TKI. Has your doctor suggested Tasigna to you?

I was diagnosed july 28th. i just started sprycel today. my gawd my body feels like its burning from the inside. its almost like i have a bad flu. is this normal? also had chest pains for a few moments. Gonna be seeing my dr tomorrow. i really hope these side affects are only temporary.

My mum started on syrcel and had an anaphylactic reaction to it! Her doctor said she had never heard of anyone else to be allergic to it! She is on gleevec now and doing pretty well. She couldnt take nilotinib either as it was just too strong. she was violently ill :( lets hope gleevec continues to work well. still not on full dose but slowly increasing...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
