The cancer cells eventually begin to outnumber and push out the good cells, and could lead to anemia and easier bleeding/bruising. Hi...My name is Tom and I was diagnosed with CML on 4/12/12. It was caught by chance on 3/29 when my PCP saw I had an elevated white count (45000). After a visit to the hematologist/oncologist and a BMB the diagnosis was confirmed. I was started on Sprycel and after 2 weeks I had built up fluid enough for the doctor to send me to the hospital with congestive heart failure. And, as it turns out, pneumonia. But a couple of days in there and Lasix and antibiotics and I am good to go again!!! Back on the sprycel along with lasix this time and things seem to be okay. A bit of nausea....not too bad.
The first 2 weeks had knocked the WBC down to 39000 so I guess it's working.
But this whole thing is pretty overwhelming. I had no symptoms of anything. Now I am on a chemo drug that I will probably have to take forever and have a disease that won't ever be cured!!
It's scary...

If it happens again, then they should switch you to Gleevec or Tasigna.
There is a lot of adjusting in the beginning, but it gets better. It is very scary and overwhelming, but as your counts balance out etc. you will feel more confident. You can send me a message, or just keep in touch on here with people who know what you are going through because they have it too. I wish you the best on the Sprycel
