Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Support Group
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (or "chronic lymphoid leukemia") CLL, is a cancer in which too many lymphocytes (a type of white blood cells) are produced. CLL is the most-diagnosed form of leukemia in adults. Men are twice as likely to develop CLL as women, however the key risk factor is age: over 75% of new cases are diagnosed in patients over age 50.
Just got my diagnosis this past Monday. Have not actually talked with the oncologist since finding out for sure. He did not do a FISH test, and from what I was reading it is recommended when first diagnosed. Should I insist that he does one?
All I can tell you is that I had the FISH test done when I was first diagnosed. To be honest, it was done before I had the opportunity to ask for it. Talk with your oncologist about it. Find out his opinion. He may already want to tell you that it needs to be done. I've learned not to be shy about asking my oncologist about anything. I'm not one to make things all about me, but when it comes to this CLL, it IS all about me!!
