I discovered a few years ago that I sleep better when I wear a hoodie. It broke my 16-year insomnia nighmare!
That's not to say that I sleep well because I don't, but I awaken less often and I sleep longer. Our house was very cold, but we moved to a warmer climate and I stopped wearing it. Big mistake. I am now searching for a light-weight hoodie. I am even looking at turbans.
Your wife might be less embarrassed if you wore a hoodie rather than a blanket or towel over your head. ;-)
I'll have to try the blanket next!
I sleep with a fan blowing in my face! Yep! Every season of the year. It serves two purposes, first, it keeps me cool! Second....it blocks out street traffic noise that would otherwise wake me up.
So there's a method to my madness. But I definitely would not do well with a hoodie or a blanket over my head at night. I need to feel cool air. I'm heat intolerant. Another wonderful benefit of CFS. Ahhhhhh!
Now, I pull the covers over my head --- even the electric blanket. When I curl up on the couch or in my recliner, I often pull an afghan over my head. I'm cold natured, too. My husband accuses me of being a reptile.
Glad you found something that works for you. Having a consistent low body temp is part of this thing, as is intolerance to heat and cold. Sometimes I think I'm comfortable about 3 minutes a day. I'm always putting layers on and peeling them off...
When it's cold at night I sleep much better.
I have a small toddler-size pillow with a flannel cover that I like to put on my face sometimes when I'm laying down. The flannel is super soft and the weight of the pillow is so light that it feels good without smothering me.
Sometimes I do feel the need to have the covers over my head in bed but for some strange reason I don't like things touching the top of my head.
