I was wondering if any of you have had help by seeing a rheumatologist. I would prefer to go on more natural medicines (probably given by an alternative doctor ) but was still wondering about the rheumatologist. Does anyone know if they do blood testing for hormones and other things that could give an answer regarding CFS or other possible conditions.

Thanks for any input. May be a silly question but I need to get a plan going .

I have a rheumatologist.and he has done nothing for me and Knows nothing about CFS.Make sure you find one that knows about CFS. Good Luck

I was diagnosed w/ RA at the same time as CFS. I couldn't handle the drugs. I do not think a rheumy wld help you with CFS.

I saw a specialist for chronic fatigue syndrome. They checked horomones, metals, seratonin, etc.... a panel of 28 viles of blood and then they changed up my meds. Within a month I couldn't believe the difference. I then had 12 Meyers cocktails thruought the year and began supplements for CFS. My life is totally different!

I saw a specialist in Denver CO. I live in NM.

I don't see a rheumatologist any more. My Dr that treats my CVID and CFS, combines alternative medicine with conventional medicine. That is the treatment that I have chosen for myself. He does the blood testing for hormones, thyroid, vitamins, and multiple other blood tests. I really like having one Dr that treats everything I have. He is the most thorough Dr I have ever seen. He has put me on bio-identical hormones and they have helped alot. I hope you can find someone that will help you too.

I've seen quite a few Rheumys because I also have Fibro. Their purpose is to rule out or diagnose things like RA, Lupus, Fibro. They do not treat or diagnose CFS.

Forgot to add that your regular doctor should be able to do hormone testing or any OBGYN

My rheumatologist diagnosed my Fibro and ruled out other auto-immune diseases with many blood tests. A sleep disorder specialist told me I also had CFS and ruled out sleep apnea, etc. My current PCP monitors all illnesses and medications that she has prescribed for the worst symptoms. I have not had much luck with many Fibro meds.(side effects). Lifestyle changes recommended by Dr. Lapp/Dr. Campbell on cfids.com was the best site for me to use to understand how to manage as much as I could myself one step at a time. That is the stage I am in now...learning to live with it all. Blessings to you!
