Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Support Group
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) describes a sense of exhaustion and post-exertion malaise, even when you have gotten enough rest and sleep. The disease is characterized by six months of incapacitating fatigue experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina, and problems with concentration and short-term memory. The cause is unknown, but it is a...
With Chronic Fatique Syndrome we are only limited to minimum physical activity. Therefore, we are advised to refrain from any cardiac or heavy exertion or activity. If you do it listen to your body, and take baby steps. What you can do one day might be hard the next. To me, it is sorta like an experimental thing and I am careful.
There are easy and low key ways people with CFS can benefit from Physical Theraphy and/or mild exercise. Stretching activities are good for stressed bodys and muscles. Stretching should always be done before any exercise.
Isometrics are strength ressistant exercise that help strengthen and build muscle tone. They are safe to do with CFS depending on the severity of the condition. Isometrics are considered not physically as exerting as other exercise.
Keep in mind that starting off very slowly with Isometrics is the key. Overdoing it will not work. At the onset of my illnes I wouldnt even of attempted this. Again I dont know what your CFS case is like.
I have read that docs suggest TiaChi, Yoga, walking, aqua areobics, and low key ways to get exercise.
If you have Fibromyagia and CFS you have to be careful. If you have Mafacial Muscle Pain like I do exercising can help the condition. With it I have to use heat on the muscle, Stretch, do some light Isometrics, and then I ice the muscles to releive pain and inflammation.
The answer to your question will it help is difficult to answer. Some things I would consider are:
What are my energy levels, do you think your body is capable of any increased exertion? I also would consider the Physical Therepist and there treatment protocol plan. Are they familiar with CFS? If not then they could hurt you, more than help you. What is your docs reasoning for PT?
The positive effects of exercise can be:
- Exercising stimulates production of Nitric Oxide levels, increases blood flow to the arteries and muscles giving them oxygen and nutrients, increases circulation, and lowers blood pressure
- Exercise helps a person regain muscle strength, builds stronger bones and helps with stiffness so that a person can have more mobility
- Helps age-proofing the cardio-vascular system
-Exercise raises your Endorphens and is proven to help with depression
I hope this helps you and I wish you very much luck in your endeavers.
