Wow, lots of words, but I did see some things that seemed encouraging. If I understood correctly, they may soon be able to diagnose ME/CFS conclusively. That would go a long way toward proving to doctors that it is a real thing. I'm always excited to see people doing research. We're not alone! Thanks, David.

So to summarize a little. If this study is matched by other (s) hopefully larger. we should have a biomarker for testing. Our bodies are going into a state like 'safe mode' in a computer where it shuts to minimal activity to protect itself from extreme stress, toxins, illness. I'm foggy right now, but it's probably the best research in mecfs history. May provide insight to treatments and add validity

I skimmed the abstract and boy, does this look hopeful! The Cornell Study that came out early this summer also points to biomarkers. We are making progress. Awesome. Bless these researchers.

I did some sleuthing. This is a chemical changes in the blood cells that are similar to animals going into hibernation. It is triggered by environment (in a large sense, so includes emotional like stress, physical environment, injuries etc), and results in the body shutting down for survival. This so makes sense with my experience. Years ago I described myself as a windup toy that has almost wound down. In retrospect I now understand that my heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, brain activity and other body functions were very low. I have take a stimulant for years, never had a problem with it. Without it I would be bedridden or dead. But it makes sense that if my body is shutting down, going into hibernation, a stimulant would help.

Just to read that CFS has an identifiable chemical signature is music for my heart.Abnormalities in 20 metabolic pathways is no small thing. Far Out!! It's all finally happening. Pretty detailed report but certainly very promising. There was a researcher in the UK who concluded in there being several different types of CFS. I hope his research will be considered too as it might help in organizing of all the details. CFS patients just don't fit so easily into one big lump.
