Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Support Group
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) describes a sense of exhaustion and post-exertion malaise, even when you have gotten enough rest and sleep. The disease is characterized by six months of incapacitating fatigue experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina, and problems with concentration and short-term memory. The cause is unknown, but it is a...
I think Provigil (Cephalon) is licensed for use here in the UK but you may find that it has restrictions for use attached to it, I think Provigil has been approved for use by people with a diagnosed sleep disorder and has recently been passed for use by MS sufferers but not for CFS.
Unfortunately here in the UK our GP's are very restricted with what they can prescribe, e.g. Low dose Naltrexone has been shown to be useful to some CFS patients in the US but in the UK it has only been licensed for use with MS patients. Your GP is NOT allowed to prescribe it to CFS patients. I personally think this sucks as there are so many treatments licensed here in the UK that I think would be worth trying but can't.
The best place to go to find treatments that are available for CFS in the UK is the NICE guidelines website, just type CFS in their search box and you will get a list of approved treatments your GP can prescribe and you will also be able to see the very long list of treatments that he CANNOT prescribe. This includes things like anti-virals, Vitamin B12 injections (the list is big).
I know this is probably as frustrating for you as it is for me.
Take care

I'm awaiting an appt with a CFS consultant maybe they have the authority to prescribe and not the GP.
I'll keep you informed....anyone in US tried Modafinal??
If you have success let us all know, I am gonna be first in the queue to try it if they are going to categorise CFS as a sleep disorder, (never even thought of putting that spin on it ).
It could work :-)

I was hoping it would help with the fatigue, but it doesn't.
With the brain, it allows me to focus in on something I'm reading and writing about, better than I was without it. It might have helped with my circadian rhythm issues. But now I seem to be plugged into a 2 AM bedtime, which isn't what I wanted. But at least I don't have insomnia.
I'm not one to be much into medicines, per se. I considered stopping this medicine. But I'm not having any ill effects and I need all the help that I can get.
