Many of your with ME/CFS are taking Klonopin or the generic form of it are on Medicare. It is what is recommended by Dr. Cheney to stop brain damage from occurring.
I was just informed today that Medicare this year stopped coverage on all benzodiazepines. I did some reading and it look like it was suppose to stop with in 2006 when they started the Drug program.
I have been on Klonopin or Clonazapam since 1992. I had to changed my Medicare Advantage Plan for 2009 because of taking Avonex for MS because my other plan dropped the state of SC.
I didn't have any problems getting Klonopin two years. This is a drug you can not stop right away without having awful side effects. I am upset that Medicare didn't mention it in their book. Oh they talk about how each plan had a different formulary but they knew they were dropping this category of medications.
Why have us sign up for Part D or find a health plan but take away a safe and effective drugs?
My doctor had no idea and I just started a mail order. I had to call back the doctor's office to have him prescribed something else. If it cost more or isn't as effective, then I just use my Rx discount card and pay for it. The whole idea was to use mail order as it is cheaper and saves me from trying to find someone to pick up the meds.
Anyone else had to change from Klonopin or Clonazapam to something else because of Medicare?

I hadn't realized Klonopin was suggested to prevent brain damage. Would you please post the link to the reference. I'd love to read that.
I'm still fighting to go on Medicare ... I NEED it but I guess it's not going to be a lot of help! Sorry to hear what helped you has been taken from you!

It seems the Neurotin can be used and I found it is covered under my insurance and it has a generic form Gabapentin. My concern is that can Neurotin keep control of swaying motion that was so severe I couldn't even read. I held unto my couch for dear life. Klonopin or Clonazepam stopped that from occuring.
I forget that many of you are still trying to get your benefits. I was disabled in 1993 and benefits issued in 1994. I hope that you can get on it soon.
To lobeliape, I am sorry to hear that. I am writing my governor and congress and senators about this. It was never intended for these group of medications to be stopped. Somehow, in some law it was overlooked. This category of drugs effect 1.7 million people.
I looked up Raptiva and see that it is injection. Is there a psoriasis foundation that can help him with the cost of this drug? I will be praying that your insurance will cover it again. Did his doctor make a request to his insurance to make an exception .. that this is the only thing that works..

Thanks for that link on Klonopin. I first went on it five years ago when I was chemically injured at work. Went off quickly, because I seem to not be able to tolerate pharmaceuticals. Maybe when I get my next checkup I'll ask the doc for some.
