Hi asili. Believe it or not, I am a constant vacationer of Lake Tahoe/Reno. Lake Tahoe is just beautiful and has excellent skiing! Even though I live in the Chicago area, my family flies out to Reno to go skiing and of course the casinos. I thought the same thing when I first got sick and especially since WPI Institute which is researching this virus is located in Reno. I even asked my mother if we went skiing in 1985 and she said we probably did. I ended up with mono in 1986 but I recovered. I didnt get sick until 1997 with CFS. I suffered for about a year and then went into remission. Now Dec. 2009 it has come back with a venegance! That is so weird because I thought the same thing as you about Lake Tahoe. But none of my family members have it. Who knows how I ended up with it and no one else did in my family. If I did catch this awful illness from Lake Tahoe, boy, I wish we would of chosen Denver instead!

Yes and yes. Tahoe was our winter playground for over 20 yrs. I was definitely up there skiing in 1985. But I didn't get sick until 1997.

I think it was between 14 and 20% of the population that showed symptomology

I have just never quite been the same since that ski accident in Tahoe. They even posted a sign in the spot where it happened.

I had hit an unmarked obstacle buried under the snow.

I was skiing on the Nevada side and when coming out of the trees on a heavy powder day I hit a buried drainage pipe and it layed me out like I had hit a parked car.

Split my face open and hyper extended my back real bad and whip lashed my neck.

When I finally got seen in the ER was too late to get stitches in my face.

Thank God a volunteer ski patrolman was not that far behind me, he stopped to help and butter flied the facial wound for me.

His name was mr Coffee. LOL.

Yeah, those people just made it up...

I can't believe how CFS has been handled by the CDC and other medical establishments. Can't they see this stuff?

I find the replies interesting, the ones who were there but didn't get sick until years later.

What was it that Komaroff said about multiple viruses being involved?

I didn't have a sudden onset, mine was gradual. I remember catching 2-3 colds though, after 'the big incident in our house', and after each one, I just got worse and worse. The last one being 'the last one' so to speak. That was in the early '90's.

A cousin of my husband's was reading about CFS back then, and she'd heard there was a viral component and that the immune system either can't or doesn't know it's supposed to shut off. It just keeps fighting and fighting......

I dunno - I'm just blithering.

Hey asili, just wondering which ski resort did you have your accident at? I use to ski at Northstar and Heavenly. Northstar is my favorite!! Lake Tahoe has the best skiing ever! I wish I could ski again!

Nevada side of Heavenly Valley.
