Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) describes a sense of exhaustion and post-exertion malaise, even when you have gotten enough rest and sleep. The disease is characterized by six months of incapacitating fatigue experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina, and problems with concentration and short-term memory. There is no way for us to solve
the lack of sleep/ exhaustion problem because that is a hallmark symptom of our illness. Our struggle is to learn how to live life with this horrible exhaustion.
We try to pace our activities, rest as often as we can, maintain good sleep habits and choose healthy foods!
Some of us are able to take medications to help get some sleep. Most of us don't do well putting chemicals in our bodies and just have to deal with the fatigue.
Hopefully you will be able to rest, eat right, meditate/relax yourself and find some ways to get some better sleep! We all know how important sleep is. I wish you the best.
I hate it sometimes because minute im up doing what i need to do and the next minute im falling asleep standing up!
"cover for the day". It will help if you accept there may be no such thing any longer if indeed you are speaking of sleeping solidly at night and then just going about your day. Naps must become part of your life. You might get away with one mid-day or need two, one late morning and one late afternoon - but getting in a 45 min nap is not a luxury, it's a necessity going forward. Eating less at a meal and more of them seems to help, lots of protein, watching out for food intolerances like gluten or nightshades or chemicals like msg can make a big difference. Pace, pace, pace. Be really cognizant of when you begin to tire and stop what you are doing and recharge. Sometimes this means having to sit still and rest in a grocery store parking lot for 15 min before driving... or missing out on things that will use more energy than you have. If you have sleep apnea, wear your cpap. If you drink caffeine, maybe cut back anytime after 2 pm. Our systems run slowly, and even in the case of stimulants, we take longer to get them out of our systems. I'm in rough shape here this week so just one more... there is no known cure for this illness so all you can do for now is accept, adjust and move forward. Again, welcome.
