Yes, men have this problem, too, we just don't like to admit it. There are lots of female abusers out there waiting like spiders for nice guys to come along.
It is a big problem for a lot of people, you are not alone.
i make clear boundaries now and have dropped some friends who only take and don't give. it's hard being isolated but less of a stressor.
remember, don't blame or guilt yourself, it won't make you feel any better. learning from these jerks will give you an arsenal to protect you against future troublemakers.
hugs and best wishes for you!
It's painful, I also still care about the people who abused me, but I agree being alone is better than being hurt all the time. That is especially true when you are chronically ill, you have to think of yourself first. If it means being alone, then so be it.

I remember my sister and her husband treated my husband and me very badly during the time she was battling cancer. She called me on the phone one day and said her husband didn't want me around them anymore. I was cooking, cleaning and taking care of her kids for her. In other words I was bending over backwards for her and her husband sometime neglecting my family at the same time. When she said this to me I replied, you have cancer, you need to take care of yourself and your family. Don't worry about me and my feelings just do what you have to do to get well. I told her I'm secure and not to worry about me or my feelings." From that point on our relationship changed and I know it changed her as well. The thing is we have a relationship but it does not consume me in any way shape or form. She doesn't have any power over me at all. It's a good feeling. I moved on from my need to be abused in that way and now no other person will abuse me like that again because I processed that experience in a healthy way.
