Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Support Group
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) describes a sense of exhaustion and post-exertion malaise, even when you have gotten enough rest and sleep. The disease is characterized by six months of incapacitating fatigue experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina, and problems with concentration and short-term memory. Now, I've had the complication of digestive issues, so the appetite is there, but the stomach won't cooperate! Ugh!
I think a lot of the weight gain people experience is from the meds they are put on. I'm not taking any anti-depressants or anything that would cause weight gain.
I also think our bodies are over-stressed in many ways, and that could cause weight loss as well.
It's ok to be thin, just be sure you're well nourished!!!
Loss of appetite is a new symptom that arrived during my latest relapse. It can be a red flag for a lot of other health conditions so at first I had trouble even identifying it as CFS. I have to force myself to eat and stay nourished and have lost a lot of weight. On days where I feel better my appetite returns but not quite to normal yet. It's hard to cook right now so I'm eating things that are not very appetizing like frozen meals dehydrated soup, so that might be part of it too.
I used to weigh 120 pounds and wore a size 4 or 6. Now I weigh 163 and wear a size 16. I got up to 175 and felt like a beached whale.
When I think back to how hard it was to take the plunge and make myself do all that shopping, washing, chopping and cooking....I could not have done it without my kids. I was so sick with so many other symptoms that I didn't really have a choice, though. (Shortness of breath, swelling, bloating, chronic diarrhea, joint pain, muscle aches, light and sound sensitivity, migraines) I was dying and desperate to find some answers.
All of this helped me figure out why I am so overweight and helped me lose some, but mainly, it weeded out all my other symptoms besides the chronic fatigue. When I beat this fatigue (and I think this diet is working), I am going to start a cooking service for CFS patients.
