The question I have is whether I should work full time starting August 20. I am a college professor. I have been working part time for the past four years teaching two classes and doing research, after being bedridden for two years. Full time work would imply going to the university one more day and teaching for two hours. I worked full time having cfs from 2000 to 2010 until I became bedridden for two years. After that I was relatively healthy for the first two years of the four years I have worked part time. Then in September 2014 I caught a cold and I started what became a nine month relapse. I continued to teach the two classes but I was sick most days. I recovered very slowly. On July 2015 I recovered completely and I was extremely healthy. I even went hiking several times. On September 2015 I lowered the dosage of a sleep medication and became very anxious for a month. That caused another relapse which lasted from October to the end of January 2016. From February until three weeks ago I was ok. The only symptom that remained was a slight feeling of malaise in my head but it didnt bother me. I considered myself recovered from my relapse. I then started working really hard on my research. I put a lot of pressure on myself to produce, I was under a lot of stress, and I became sick again on April 10. On April 13 I travelled for 3 hours to give a 15 minute talk. I became very sick for four nights. The feeling of malaise in my head got really bad. I also had chest discomfort. I went to see my doctor and told him I had to make a decision about working full time in a few days. I told him I had decided to work full time in August but now that I was sick again I was reconsidering my decision. On April 28 my doctor gave me a cocktail of antioxidants and vitamins through my veins and told me that depending on how I reacted to that I could decide on whether to work full time in August or not. The cocktail worked. I have been feeling well for the last three days. The feeling of malaise in my head is gone. I feel relatively strong. The doctor is going to continue giving me the cocktail for the next months but I have not talked to him about working full time. August 20 is a long time away. Almost four months. And I feel I have recovered from my latest relapse. But I am unsure about what to do. I need to tell my director now whether I am going to teach three courses or two because student course registration starts this week. I could say I will teach three courses and then cancel one course in August if I dont feel well. But I did that already once last semester and the director told me he prefers that I decide now and not cancel later. I wish I had more time to see how I feel. I feel good now and it looks like I recovered from my relapse and that I will be fine in August. Not teaching three courses would imply loosing $8500 that I need because my girlfriend wants to move in with me and she is unemployed. But I wonder if I should wait one more semester to see if I am really ok and start full time in January 2017. I really want to start in August, not lose that money and help my girlfriend who desperately wants to move in with me. With the money I make working part time I cannot afford to live where I live. I have been using my savings. I can afford one more semester of part time work but $8500 is a considerable amount of money for me to lose. But the real question is whether I am ready to teach three courses instead of two in August. I greatly appreciate your help in making this decision. I am very confused right now. I tell the story of my relapses since I was bedridden because I feel they are things I could have avoided. The one thing I cant avoid is catching a cold but a cold has not made me sick again since I have been getting weakly shots to make my immune system stronger.
