Alastair Lynch is a man who played Australian Rules Football in the 90s and early 2000s, he was a huge, intimidating superstar, who in 1995, at the age of 25, when in the process of training extremely hard, found himself very unwell, he was exhausted, sleeping 20 hours a day, and after the months passed, it wouldnt go away. People told him he was "depressed" and it was all in his head, he used to respond "I'm depressed because I am in bed for 20 hours a day!"
He was then diagnosed with CFS, and was housebound for 3 years. No one really knew about the illness down here, so he tried many things, DHEA, all the vitamins he could handle, and (my favourote) Icebaths! Yes, thats where I learned to use them.
At the age of 30, your career is usually done in Australian Rules, unless you are an established, great player, he was still recoverng, so the likley hood of him coming back and succeeding, was minimal.
However, he made it back, and became a superstar of the game, here is a short video of him, in the 2003 grand final (the afl super bowl) in front of a crowd of 90 thousand.

This was very uplifting. It was the first person who didn't say, "you must be depressed".
I guess even this celebrity was not believed at first. Dang, what a syndrome! We are doubted before we even know what cfs is.

It was the second book I finished when I got sick.
I'm noticing that doctors aren't telling us all the same things. Mine told me straight up that not all treatments work for all cfs patients, but many are worth a try. There also seems to be either a disagreement or lack of shared info in the medical community about cfs.
The regular doctor who referred me to the chronic fatigue clinic looked up cfs online after I said I think I might have it because it's the only thing I've read up on that comes close to fitting. Seriously, she did the same thing I did, looked it up. It would be so nice if regular practioners were trained in identifying and treating this.....
