Old Testament Devotional

Hello!

I've been doing a lot of Bible reading, but i realized that I wasn't giving the Old Testament enough attention. Most of the time I find it too hard to understand, but I know I can learn important things from them. I found these verses encouraging and enlightening:

Jeremiah 10:6 No one is like you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.
Lamentations 3:58 O Lord, you took up my case. You redeemed my life.
Joel 2:16 Be not afraid, O land; be glad and rejoice. Surely the LORD has done great things.
Amos 5:14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.
Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,...

I seem to find alot of encouragement and growth from the Psalms and Proverbs. I don't go to them as often as I should, but when I do, they are very helpful to me. Like Angela has said, Proverbs 3:5-6 are especially inspirational to me.

I think the minor prophets are the most neglected part of my Bible study. I appreciate you posting these here. they are all great scriptures. Of course Jeremiah was a major prophet. Just means he wrote a longer book.

Thanks for posting. I love the Psalms too, Bandmom. I read them every day year round and they have changed my life - God speaks through all of his word, but there is something special about the emotions and the joy and grief in the songs of the Psalms.

I am just reading a book called "Cry of the Heart" by Dan Allender about the Psalms and C.S Lewis has one too.

One thing that helped me get more of the Old Testament into my head was to buy a Concordance. Then I read on a topic like God's love for us, and I get to read all of the OT and NT quotes about that topic. It's amazing how many times the Old and the New agree and support each other. There are beautiful passages in the book of Isaiah; many of our church songs come from that book of the Bible. Beautiful language in that particular OT book. : ) Thanks for the scriptures, they are good ones! Judy
