Hi everyone,

I think I may be losing my mind. My beautiful 20 year old daughter just broke up with her boyfriend of 4 1/2 years. This is a guy that I let into my heart and home. He is a wonderful young man and I really thought this was my future son in law. I am grieving, I cant stop crying. I cried through the whole church service on Sunday. My daughter is angry with me. I feel like I lost a son. They were a great couple, always laughing and doing things together. Very little arguing. She was 16 and he 18 when they started dating. She says she is "not feeling it anymore", and this young man is so in love with her and hurt beyond words. Has anyone else gone through this? If so I need to hear how you survived this. AH

I stayed friends with the young man. Young people can be fickle. Things don't always go the way you wish. But, that doesn't mean your friendship has to end. Stay away from pushing the two of them back together though. This might have the oposite affect. Don't try to talk you daughter into returning to the relationship. This might put a distance between the 2 of you. Allow God to work. He knows what's going on. In the long run, she might get back together with this young man. Don't push it.

Thanks Mary, Thankfully I have not tried to push them back together nor have I tried to talk my daughter into getting back together. Yes I have been praying about this day and night. I have been in contact with the BF and offered my love and support to him also. Just so heartbreaking because like I said he is like a son to me. I do know it is in God's hands in my head, its just my heart is breaking. Thanks for talking! AH

So sorry to hear that this has happened. I think, besides Mary's excellent suggestions, that you need to focus on God being in control. That is called the sovereignty of God. Whatever happens, God knows and understands! I always meditate on this passage, when I don't understand why things have gone the way they have.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding,
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." Prov. 3:5-6

Thanks Marlene, I have been really meditating on God's word! I have wonderful christian friends that hold me up and pray for me. I just don't know why I am so crazy over this. I know that in my head, they are young, these things happen. My heart just aches for him. Thanks for the verse, yes, that is one of my favorites. Thanks for reaching out. AH
